FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR) (X Ziani) was hard to load. Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami was advised that FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. MAGIK DU PAON (FR) (G Avranche), AF ONSHODA (AE) (D Smith), AL NEMAR (AE) (S Al Reffai), VAINQUEUR DU CLOS (FR) (R Ffrench) and UNA DU BIBAL (FR) (P Cosgrave) were slow to begin. DUZAR (FR) (C Sanchez) and MAGIK DU PAON (FR) raced keenly in the early stages. AF ONSHODA (AE) gave ground from the 1200m. Leaving the 1100m, NAJM ALEMARAT (FR) (T O’Shea) shifted inwards away from GHUROOB W’RSAN (AE) (S Al Mazrooei), which shifted inwards slightly. In doing so, NAJM ALEMARAT (FR) made slight contact with FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR), with the two horses then racing tight for a short distance. Approaching the 1000m, FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR), which was then reluctant to hold its position to the inside of NAJM ALEMARAT (FR), shifted inwards slightly and bumped AF ASEFAH (AE) (H Bentley) and was then eased from its position. On enquiry, whilst it was established that NAJM ALEMARAT (FR) had initially shifted inwards away from GHUROOB W’RSAN (AE), which caused crowding to FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR), the Stewards felt that FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR) was reluctant to hold its position after making contact with NAJM ALEMARAT (FR) and then subsequently AF ASEFAH (AE), which was racing to its inside at this time, and that ultimately FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR) had contributed to this incident itself. Notwithstanding, Jockey T O’Shea (NAJM ALEMARAT [FR]) was warned and advised that he must ensure that affords runners to his inside sufficient room. AF ASEFAH (AE) gave ground from 900m. Near the 500m, GHUROOB W’RSAN (AE), shifted inwards onto FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR), causing FORGEHILL SAPINA (FR) to be restrained from its position. On enquiry after taking evidence from Jockey X Ziani (FORGEHILL SAPINA [FR]) and Apprentice S Al Mazrooei (GHUROOB W’RSAN [AE]) and viewing the available patrol footage, the matter was adjourned until a representative for Apprentice S Al Mazrooei could attend the enquiry with him. On the resumption of the enquiry (on Monday 26 November 2012 in the Meydan offices) in the presence of Trainer Mr A Al Raihe (Master of Apprentice S Al Mazrooei) and Mr Y Mabrouk (ERA Master of Apprentices), and after reviewing the available patrol footage and receiving further submissions, Apprentice S Al Mazrooei (GHUROOB W’RSAN [AE]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Meydan 6th December and Sharjah 8th December 2012). VAINQUEUR DU CLOS (FR) hung outwards throughout and then ran very wide making the home bend. Trainer Mr S Deeb was advised that VAINQUEUR DU CLOS (FR) would be required to complete a racecourse gallop to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being entered to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of DESERT ROSE (US) (A Ajtebi) revealed the filly to be tied up. Trainer Mr M Ramadan was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the filly being permitted to be entered to race again.

BIBI BASHA (AE) (J Rosales) was very fractious in the gates and then began awkwardly. Trainer Dr J Bittar was advised that he must attempt to rectify the colt’s starting gate manners prior to racing again. AQMAAR (GB) (D O’Neill) was slow to begin. MAYMOUN W’RSAN (AE) (R Mullen) was crowded at the start between AS MUSHRIF (AE) (S Al Reffai) and AF DHAHAM (AE) (W Smith). Passing the 200m, WAJFAH W’RSAN (AE) (R Ffrench) was momentarily eased between MANISHA (AE) (D O’Donohoe), which initially drifted inwards, and AQMAAR (GB), which shifted outwards slightly.

SAHER (FR) (H Bentley) began awkwardly and bumped with MESTOR (FR) (R Ffrench) and then shifted inwards crowding FRYNCHMAN (US) (J Doyle) and TIME OUT (FR) (T O’Shea). RAKKAD AL ASAYL (AE) (S Al Reffai) was slow to begin. Passing the 100m, TIME OUT (FR) (T O’Shea) veered outwards abruptly. Jockey T O’Shea (TIME OUT [FR]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that it was an abrupt shift and it was an instinctive reaction from Jockey T O’Shea, nonetheless, the Rules do not permit for the use of the whip in this manner.

SIMBAR DU LOUP (FR) was unable to be loaded and was subsequently withdrawn at 7:04pm. Trainer Mr E Lemartinel was advised that SIMBAR DU LOUP (FR) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. On return to the scales, Jockey G Avranche requested the Stewards give consideration as to whether AF QAMOOS (AE) was afforded a fair start. After interviewing Jockey G Avranche and Starter Mr S Ryan, the Stewards deemed that AF QAMOOS (AE) had been afforded a fair start. TAISEER (FR) (T Koyuncu) and ETIHAD (AE) (C Peddie) dwelt at the start and lost ground. AF BELADI (AE) (A De Vries) and AF QAMOOS (AE) were slow to begin. Approaching the 500m, UBU AL MELS (FR) (P Cosgrave) was restrained from its position when racing between AF MAYA HAB (AE) (H Bentley) to its outside, and YAZAN (AE) (R Mullen) to its inside. Racing in advance of YAZAN (AE) at this time, was DAY BREAKER (AE) (S Al Mazrooei). On enquiry, based on the evidence of the riders involved, it was established that at this stage of the race, as YAZAN (AE) improved and was angled to the outside of the heels of DAY BREAKER (AE), DAY BREAKER (AE) then hung outwards, which carried YAZAN (AE) outwards, causing UBU AL MELS (FR) to be tightened onto AF MAYA HAB (AE), with UBU AL MELS (FR) having to be restrained from its position. Whilst it is unfortunate that there was no suitable patrol footage available to confirm this incident, the Stewards support the evidence of the riders involved, and advised all riders to ensure that they take sufficient measures to ensure their own safety and the safety of their fellow riders. Furthermore, the Stewards will again ask the ERA to make representations to the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club to improve the standard of patrol footage available at future meetings.

QANOON (USA) (W Smith) and KAL BARG (GB) (J Doyle) were slow to begin. JAMHOORI (GB) (H Bentley) began awkwardly. CRAIGSTOWN (GB) (S Hitchcott) jumped inwards at the start crowding ROYAATY (IRE) (A De Vries). Approaching the 300m, JANOOD (IRE) (X Ziani) shifted outwards, and DR FAUSTUS (IRE) (P Dobbs), which was racing to its outside, ran outwards away from JANOOD (IRE). DR FAUSTUS (IRE) then veered back inwards. Passing the 300m, KAL BARG (GB) shifted outwards abruptly, causing CRAIGSTOWN (GB) to be eased. As Jockey J Doyle had already left the course, the Stewards will discuss this incident with him at a later date. ON WAR (USA) (M Monaghan) proved difficult to control during the race, placing its rider at a disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination of ON WAR (USA) revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth.
