AMAZON RIVER (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) was fractious in the starting gates, and then dwelt and then reared shortly after the gates opened and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr R Bouresly was advised that AMAZON RIVER (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being permitted to be entered to race again. MAALI (IRE) (R Ffrench) and DR FAUSTUS (IRE) (P Dobbs) began awkwardly. MAALI (IRE) (R Ffrench) was impeded for clear running making the home bend near the 400m, and was momentarily eased away from the heels of LION SANDS (GB) (J Rosales). A post-race veterinary examination of MOONLIGHT DASH (GB) (R Mullen) revealed the presence of some blood in the right nostril of the gelding. However, the ERA Veterinary Officer did not deem MOONLIGHT DASH (GB) to have bled, and therefore no embargo was recorded.

After arriving at the starting gates RAMI (FR) (C Sandoval) had its near fore shoe replaced. AFLATOON (AE) (J Rosales) began awkwardly. LAHIB (FR) (J Doyle) began awkwardly. UNIQUE DE LA GARDE (FR) (R Ffrench) began awkwardly and bumped NIESHAN (FR) (G Avranche). UNIQUE DE LA GARDE (FR) raced very keenly in the early stages and near the 1900m, when making the bend, veered outwards and bumped NIESHAN (FR). Near the 900m, UNIQUE DE LA GARDE (FR) was restrained when NAWFAL AL REEF (AE) (A de Vries) shifted outwards. On enquiry, based on the evidence available to them, the Stewards established that at this stage of the race, as RS SANJAR (AE) (S Al Taleei) commenced to tire, Jockey A de Vries angled NAWFAL AL REEF (AE) outwards around its heels to improve, and in doing so, UNIQUE DE LA GARDE (FR), which was racing to its outside, had to be restrained from its racing position. Jockey A de Vries (NAWFAL AL REEF [AE]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Abu Dhabi 20th January and Meydan 24th January 2013). Shortly after this near the 850m, as UNIQUE DE LA GARDE (FR) was being restrained back through the field, it was placed in an awkward position for a short distance and was eased between VERSAC PY (FR) (P Hanagan) to its outside, and SERAPHIN DU PAON (FR) (T O'Shea) to its inside. TIME OUT (FR) (S Hitchcott) was impeded for clear running approaching the 250m, behind SERAPHIN DU PAON (FR) and NIESHAN (FR). Approaching the finishing line, AFLATOON (AE) shifted outwards causing TIME OUT (FR) to be momentarily restrained away from the heels of VERSAC PY (FR). On enquiry, Jockey J Rosales (AFLATOON [AE]) was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he maintains a straight course and is clear when shifting ground in future. VERSAC PY (FR) returned having lost its left fore shoe in running.

ISTARA (FR) (A Murgia) was fractious in the parade ring and dislodged its rider. ISTARA (FR) was then re-mounted on the track and was again fractious and reared up, again dislodging its rider. ISTARA (FR) then galloped riderless and after being gathered in near the starting gates, was again fractious and was unable to be mounted by Jockey A Murgia. Consequently, ISTARA (FR) was a late scratching at 6.32pm. Trainer Mr M Al Shamsi was advised that ISTARA (FR) would be required to complete satisfactory paddock schooling, two stalls tests and a racecourse gallop to the satisfaction of the Stewards, prior to it being permitted to be entered to race again. Under the provisions of ERA Rule 9(xiii), Jockey A Murgia was reprimanded for his conduct in that he struck the stomach of ISTARA (FR) with his whip. AL AROUS (US) (G Avranche) was fractious in the starting gates. Trainer Mr E Lemartinel was advised that he must attempt to rectify the starting gate manners of AL AROUS (US) prior to its next race start. LIVE RICH (US) (X Ziani) and AL AROUS (US) were slow to begin. ALKAR (FR) (S Trabelsi) began awkwardly and bumped with SABBAQ (AE) (J Doyle). ALKAR (FR) then raced keenly in the early stages and improved quickly within the field, and near the 1300m, drifted inwards and brushed SABBAQ (AE) and then shifted outwards and made contact with SHAYEL ALDHABI (AE) (T O'Shea). ALKAR (FR) then shifted inwards abruptly and made heavy contact with SABBAQ (AE). Near the 1100m, ALKAR (FR) and SABBAQ (AE) bumped for a short distance. RICHLEAU (US) (S Hitchcott) was impeded for clear running behind ALKAR (FR) from near the 500 to the 450m. On making the home bend near the 400m, ALKAR (FR) drifted outwards inconveniencing MAGIK DU PAON (FR) (W Smith). Leaving the 350m, ALKAR (FR) ran inwards abruptly when being ridden along with the whip by its rider Jockey S Trabelsi. After questioning both Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami and Jockey S Trabelsi, an inquiry into the reasons for Jockey S Trabelsi’s apparent lack of control of his mount ALKAR (FR) during the race has been adjourned. Near the 100m, SABBAQ (AE) was momentarily restrained between WYCKED (US) (R Mullen), which shifted outwards, and SHAYEL ALDHABI (AE), which shifted inwards. On enquiry, based on the evidence available to them, it was established that both WYCKED (US) and SHAYEL ALDHABI (AE) were hanging and placing their respective riders in some difficulty, and given that it was evident this incident occurred due to movement from both sides and that the racing manners of both WYCKED (US) and SHAYEL ALDHABI (AE) had contributed, no action was taken against any rider.
