INTERPRET (USA) (W Smith) and METALMARK (IRE) (D Smith) were slow to begin. NATIONAL FLAG (IRE) (J Doyle) and I GOT YOU BABE (IRE) (D O’Neill) bumped on jumping. Shortly after the start, I GOT YOU BABE (IRE) was momentarily hampered when LIGHTFOOT (GB) (S James) drifted outwards away from SHARK IN THE SEA (GB) (A Ajtebi). INTERPRET (USA) raced wide in the middle stages. NEED TO KNOW (SAF) (R Ffrench) hung outwards rounding the home bend. Jockey A Ajtebi (SHARK IN THE SEA [GB]) advised that the colt felt short in its action in the home straight and as such he elected not to fully test the colt. A post-race veterinary examination of SHARK IN THE SEA (GB) revealed no abnormalities.

MARK TO MARKET (IRE) (P Cosgrave) stumbled on jumping and then it and NEEDLELEAF (USA) (C Sandoval) were crowded between FELIX (PER) (D O’Donohoe) and CITY OF LIGHT (ARG) (T O’Shea), which jumped outwards sharply. Shortly after the start, MORAHIN (IRE) (S James) and FOREST RUNNER (GB) (D Smith) were crowded between FINAL RECOVERY (GB) (W Smith) and WAHEED (GB) (J Doyle), which drifted outwards, with FOREST RUNNER (GB) having to be restrained from its position. A short distance after the start, MUSLEH (USA) (S Al Reffai) commenced to buck and veered in sharply. Jockey S Al Reffai (MUSLEH [USA]) advised that the saddle had slipped on jumping and this had caused the gelding to react in this manner. CITY OF LIGHT (ARG) returned having lost its right hind shoe.

BUSKER (USA) (A De Vries) was fractious in the gates and reared on jumping. UPTOWN GUY (USA) (D Smith) dwelt on jumping and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised that UPTOWN GUY (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, KARMA CHAMELEON (GB) (D O’Donohoe) was momentarily restrained when TOUCH GOLD (IRE) (T O’Shea) shifted inwards. On enquiry, Jockey T O’Shea (TOUCH GOLD [IRE]) was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is clear when shifting ground in future. MEZYAAD (USA) (J Doyle) raced keenly in restricted room for a short distance near the bend at the 1600m. On straightening, LION SANDS (GB) (J Rosales) was obliged to ease and angle to the outside of MUTAJARE (IRE) (D O’Neill), which drifted inwards slightly. When questioned regarding the performance of MEZYAAD (USA), which commenced to give ground leaving the 800m, Jockey J Doyle stated that after racing keenly in the early stages, the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure. ENJOY TODAY (USA) (H Bentley) raced wide throughout.

ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) (R Ffrench) and DR FAUSTUS (IRE) (W Smith) both began awkwardly. Passing the 1700m, ROCHDALE (GB) (H Bentley), BALIERUS (GER) (A De Vries) and WONDER LAWN (SAF) (S James) raced tight to the inside of ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE), with WONDER LAWN (SAF) easing from its position. On enquiry, whilst the Stewards noted the evidence of Apprentice S James (WONDER LAWN [SAF]) that he had intended to ease from his position at this time, Jockey R Ffrench (ZAIN SHAMARDAL [IRE]) was advised that he must ensure that he affords his fellow riders sufficient room. When questioned regarding the performance of ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE), Jockey R Ffrench stated that colt travelled well in running, however when he asked him to respond, in his opinion the colt seemed to have difficulty responding under the big weight at his first run of this preparation.

Near the 1350m, BARBECUE EDDIE (USA) (H Bentley) was restrained when racing to the inside of COMMANDER CAVE (USA) (D O’Donohoe). When questioned regarding the reasons for restraining BARBECUE EDDIE (USA), Jockey H Bentley advised that he had attempted to adjust his grip on the reins at this point, and the gelding over-reacted to this correction. He stated that at all times he had sufficient room from COMMANDER CAVE (USA). After making the home bend, BARBECUE EDDIE (USA) was momentarily held up for clear running.
