BARANSKY (GB) (M Monaghan), KONSAL (USA) (A de Vries), WISE THOUGHTS (GER) (R Mullen) and FALCONINTHEDESERT (IRE) (S Al Mazrooei) were slow to begin. MALTESE CAT (IRE) (W Smith) began awkwardly. Near the 1350m, BLUE SEA (IRE) (R Ffrench) was momentarily eased between FA'IZ (IRE) (S Hitchcott) and HAZAZ (IRE) (P Cosgrave), which drifted outwards slightly making the bend. Near the 500m, MALTESE CAT (IRE) was restrained from its position between HAZAZ (IRE) and BARANSKY (GB). On enquiry, it was established that at this stage of the race, as AMAAL (USA) (B Doyle) commenced to tire, BARANSKY (GB) angled around its heels and, in doing so, initially tightened MALTESE CAT (IRE) out onto HAZAZ (IRE), and as BARANSKY (GB) continued to ease and angle outwards, this accentuated the tightening and caused MALTESE CAT (IRE) to make contact with the hindquarters of HAZAZ (IRE), and ultimately MALTESE CAT (IRE) was restrained from its position, clipped heels and blundered. As a consequence, Apprentice M Monaghan (BARANSKY [GB]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for two days (Meydan 17 and 19 January 2013). FALCONINTHEDESERT (IRE) travelled wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of JOURNALISTIC (USA), Jockey K Fallon stated that in his opinion the quick back-up and the step up in distance had contributed to its performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of JOURNALISTIC (USA) revealed no abnormalities.

After arriving at the starting gates, BARTOLOMEU (GB) (P Cosgrave) had its near fore shoe replaced. BARTOLOMEU (GB) was hard to load and then dwelt as the gates opened and lost ground. Trainer Mr E Oertel was advised that BARTOLOMEU (GB) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being permitted to be entered to race again. PRINCE SHAUN (IRE) (P Dobbs) began awkwardly. FOREVERTHEOPTIMIST (IRE) (K Fallon) raced keenly in the early stages. RITUAL (IRE) (J Doyle) raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance of INNOCUOUS (GB), Jockey R Ffrench stated that, notwithstanding that the gelding was caught a little wide in the race, in his opinion he felt that the gelding raced like he wanted more distance.

NEEDLELEAF (USA) (C Sandoval) dwelt on jumping and lost ground. DAN CHILLINGWORTH (IRE) (T Durcan) was crowded on jumping between SUITED AND BOOTED (IRE) (W Smith) and NO HUBRIS (USA) (J Doyle), which jumped outwards. Near the 1200m, IGUAZU FALLS (USA) (A de Vries) was momentarily eased when FINAL RECOVERY (GB) (P Dobbs) shifted inwards. Jockey P Dobbs (FINAL RECOVERY [GB]) was advised to ensure that he is fully clear when shifting ground in future. After passing the 300m, AL RAZI (USA) (M Monaghan) was momentarily impeded for clear running behind QANNAAS (USA) (P Hanagan). COUNT PARIS (USA) (C Sanchez) was impeded behind MABROOR (USA) (D O'Neill) between the 600m and 500m, and then in the early parts of the straight COUNT PARIS (USA) had some difficulty obtaining clear running until he was angled to the outside approaching the 200m.

MARK TO MARKET (IRE) (T O'Shea) and NEXT MOVE (IRE) (C Sandoval) were slow to begin. LORD TIGER (GB) (M Monaghan) and BUSKER (USA) (A de Vries) began awkwardly. Near the 800m, IMVULA (AUS) (P Cosgrave) was restrained momentarily when racing between CARNABY STREET (IRE) (T Durcan) to its outside, and BUSKER (USA), which had improved to its inside. A short distance later, LORD TIGER (GB) eased away from IMVULA (AUS). On enquiry, whilst it was established that there was room for BUSKER (USA) to improve to the inside of IMVULA (AUS) at this stage, the Stewards were of the opinion that it was a tight run, and by improving into this position, Jockey A de Vries (BUSKER [USA]) had placed Jockey P Cosgrave (IMVULA [AUS]) in an awkward position, which resulted in IMVULA (AUS) being momentarily restrained, as Jockey T Durcan (CARNABY STREET [IRE]) was unable to alleviate any pressure to the outside of IMVULA (AUS). Whilst taking no action against Jockey A de Vries (BUSKER [USA]), he was advised that he should exercise greater care in similar circumstances in the future. AQMAAR (GB) (D O’Neill) was held up for clear running rounding the home bend. BUSKER (USA) was held up for clear running rounding the home bend and in the early parts of the straight behind PROFONDO ROSSO (IRE) (H Bentley) and FURNACE (IRE) (S Hitchcott). Near the 300m, PROFONDO ROSSO (IRE) drifted inwards momentarily, which carried FURNACE (IRE) inwards, which momentarily crowded LIBERATION (IRE) (A Murgia). Approaching the 200m, when being impeded behind MUJRAYAAT (IRE) (P Hanagan), BUSKER (USA) bumped with AQMAAR (GB) and then shifted outwards around MUJRAYAAT (IRE) as it drifted inwards, causing AQMAAR (GB) to be restrained from its position. On enquiry, Jockey A de Vries (BUSKER [USA]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for two days (Meydan 17 and 19 January 2013). STORM BELT (USA) (P Dobbs) returned having suffered lacerations to its right hind leg.

BLUE TIGER'S EYE (IRE) (A de Vries) began awkwardly and bumped with KARMA CHAMELEON (GB) (K Fallon). COLOURFUL SCORE (USA) (M Monaghan) and MOANNAA (GB) (J Doyle) bumped on jumping. UPTOWN GUY (USA) (P Dobbs) and FLORENTINE RULER (USA) (R Ffrench) bumped on jumping. MEZYAAD (USA) (S James) raced keenly in the early stages and after passing the winning post on the first occasion was eased when EKTIBAAS (GB) (P Hanagan) drifted inwards slightly. Approaching the 1700m, EARL OF CARRICK (USA) (P Cosgrave) raced tight and was eased between KARMA CHAMELEON (GB) to its inside, and COLOURFUL SCORE (USA), which after improving to its outside, was carried inwards slightly by WATHEEQ (USA) (D O'Neill), which drifted inwards slightly away from COEUR LOYAL (CHI) (S Hitchcott). Shortly after making the home bend, KARMA CHAMELEON (GB) drifted outwards hampering MOANNAA (GB). Approaching the 200m, MOANNAA (GB), which was commencing to tire, was eased between COEUR LOYAL (CHI) to its outside and EARL OF CARRICK (USA), which was improving to its inside. On enquiry, it was established that at this stage of the race, COEUR LOYAL (CHI) drifted inwards momentarily, and whilst EARL OF CARRICK (USA) had shifted outwards as it improved its position, the Stewards felt that this was after Jockey J Doyle had commenced to ease the tiring MOANNAA (GB). Accordingly, no action was taken against any rider for this incident. UPTOWN GUY (USA) (P Dobbs) returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised that UPTOWN GUY (USA) would not be permitted to start until it had passed a satisfactory gallop test in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer, to be conducted not before 21 days from the date of bleeding.
