TENOR DES VIALETTES (FR) (W Smith) and TZAR DU PAON (FR) (D O'Neill) were slow to begin. RAKED (FR) (P Cosgrave) and NASEEM (FR) (H Bentley) both began awkwardly. Making the bend near the 1300m, ALBAR LOTOIS (FR) (G Avranche) was crowded for room and eased between KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR) (P Dobbs) and RAKED (FR), which drifted outwards slightly. When questioned regarding the performance of QUITE A SHOW (US), Jockey P Hanagan stated that the horse never travelled at any stage of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of QUITE A SHOW (US) revealed no abnormalities.

ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) (C Soumillon) and AKEED WAFI (IRE) (R French) both began awkwardly. MONTMORENCY (IRE) (R Mullen) jumped outwards at the start crowding BELGIAN BILL (GB) (R Moore) out onto YAA WAYL (IRE) (S De Sousa) out onto LAA RAYB (USA) (S James), which was eased away from the heels of FINAL BUTTON (SAF) (P Cosgrave). YAA WAYL (IRE) was then crowded a short distance later between FINAL BUTTON (SAF) and BELGIAN BILL (GB), which was carried outwards by MONTMORENCY (IRE). BELGIAN BILL (GB) raced very keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 1200m FINAL BUTTON (SAF) was crowded for room and bumped between CANWINN (IRE) (J Doyle), which was drifting inwards, and AKEED WAFI (IRE), which after beginning awkwardly, was urged forward to take up a more forward position. AKEED WAFI (IRE) and FINAL BUTTON (SAF) both then raced keenly, and near the 1000m FINAL BUTTON (SAF) bumped AKEED WAFI (IRE) inwards, which crowded YAA WAYL (IRE) inwards onto ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB), which was restrained momentarily. On enquiry whilst it was evident that ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) had to be restrained at this time, the Stewards were of the opinion that this was caused due to the racing manners of FINAL BUTTON (SAF) and AKEED WAFI (IRE), which were both racing keenly and bumping at this time, and it was this bumping that caused YAA WAYL (IRE) to be crowded inwards onto ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB). The stewards acknowledged that prior to this incident FINAL BUTTON (SAF) had been crowded inwards by CANWINN (IRE), which had resulted in FINAL BUTTON (SAF) racing keenly. Given that no rider could be found at fault, no action was taken. Leaving the 800m, TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) (P Graberg) shifted inwards causing BELGIAN BILL (GB) to be restrained from its position. On enquiry, Jockey P Graberg (TERTIO BLOOM [SWE]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Meydan 19 January and Abu Dhabi 20 January 2013). Passing the 100m, SPIRIT OF BATTLE (USA) (T O'Shea) ran inwards carrying TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) and CANWINN (IRE) inwards.

CONFESSIONAL (GB) (T Durcan) was fractious in the starting gates. SMOOTH OPERATOR (GER) (A de Vries) and PABUSAR (GB) (J Doyle) bumped on jumping. INXILE (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) was slow to begin. INVINCIBLE ASH (IRE) (J Spencer) and LUI REI (ITY) (K Fallon) both began awkwardly. Near the 500m, where the chute links up with the course proper, GOVINDA (USA) (P Graberg) veered outwards abruptly, momentarily crowding INXILE (IRE). Near the 350m, BENJI’S EMPIRE (AUS) (S Baster) was momentarily crowded between CONFESSIONAL (GB) and FITYAAN (GB) (P Hanagan), which shifted inwards. When questioned regarding the performance of ADDICTIVE DREAM (IRE), Jockey A Nicholls could offer no explanations. A post-race veterinary examination of ADDICTIVE DREAM (IRE) revealed no abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of BENJI’S EMPIRE (AUS), Jockey S Baster advised that the gelding requires further distance.

ROCKS OFF (GB) (K Fallon) was fractious in the starting gates and became cast under the front of the starting gate. After being released, it was found to have broken its breastplate. As there was no spare breast plate available in the Starter’s gear, the breast plate could not be replaced. ROCKS OFF (GB) underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Trainer Mr F Nass was advised that ROCKS OFF (GB) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being permitted to be entered to race again. UNIVERSAL (IRE) (A Nicholls) dwelt on jumping and lost ground. TOPCLAS (FR) (A de Vries) was slow to begin and bumped with TROIS ROIS (FR) (A Murgia). After passing the winning post on the first occasion ROCHDALE (GB) (R French) was restrained from its position when racing to the inside of FARRIER (USA) (R Mullen), which was racing to the inside of MUSHREQ (AUS) (P Hanagan), which was shifting inwards. On enquiry, it was established that after being slow into stride, Jockey R Mullen (FARRIER [USA]) had endeavoured to take up a forward position and had improved quickly from behind ROCHDALE (GB). At the same time, Jockey P Hanagan (MUSHREQ [AUS]) was drifting inwards, and as FARRIER (USA) improved to a position where it was close to the heels of MUSHREQ (AUS), it over-reacted and got its head up and shifted inwards onto ROCHDALE (GB), causing it to be restrained from its position. Whilst the interference suffered by ROCHDALE (GB) was significant, the Stewards could not be satisfied that either Jockey R Mullen (FARRIER [USA]) or Jockey P Hanagan (MUSHREQ [AUS]) were culpable in isolation. Notwithstanding, both Jockey R Mullen (FARRIER [USA]) and Jockey P Hanagan (MUSHREQ [AUS]) were reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in the future. Shortly after making the home bend near the 350m, MUSHREQ (AUS) shifted inwards causing FARRIER (USA) to be momentarily restrained. On enquiry, based on the evidence of the Jockeys R Mullen (FARRIER [USA]) and P Hanagan (MUSHREQ [AUS]), the Stewards noted that FARRIER (USA) was endeavouring to obtain a tight run, which presented itself momentarily to the inside of MUSHREQ (AUS) as it drifted off the inside making the home bend, and in the opinion of Jockey R Mullen, had FARRIER (USA) been travelling better at this stage, he would have been able to hold his ground and maintain the run. The Stewards noted the explanation of the Jockeys in this incident. Leaving the 300m MARCHING TIME (GB) (D O'Neill) was restrained from its position when racing between START RIGHT (GB) (P Dobbs), to its outside, which had ROCKS OFF (GB) (K Fallon) to its outside, and ARTHUR'S TALE (USA) (M Barzalona), which was improving and angling out to its inside. On enquiry, Jockey M Barzalona (ARTHUR'S TALE [USA]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Meydan 19 January and Abu Dhabi 20 January 2013). Leaving the 200m, MUSHREQ (AUS), which was commencing to tire, was restrained from its position when racing to the inside of KASSIANO (GER) (T Durcan), which was racing to the inside of ROYAL EMPIRE (IRE) (S De Sousa). On enquiry, it was established that KASSIANO (GER) was laying inwards at this time, and as a tight run to the inside of ROYAL EMPIRE (IRE) presented itself, Jockey T Durcan (KASSIANO [GER]) elected to take this run and after doing so, ROYAL EMPIRE (IRE) drifted inwards, which tightened KASSIANO (GER) in onto MUSHREQ (AUS), resulting in it being momentarily restrained. In all of the circumstances, given movement from both ROYAL EMPIRE (IRE) and KASSIANO (GER), and the fact that Jockey P Hanagan stated that MUSHREQ (AUS) was giving ground at this stage, the Stewards determined to take no action against any rider, other than to advise both Jockey S de Sousa (ROYAL EMPIRE [IRE]) and Jockey T Durcan (KASSIANO [GER]) to ensure that they are clear when shifting ground in future. OTTOMAN EMPIRE (FR) (H Bentley) returned with a laceration to its left hind heel.

SHARESTAN (IRE) (S de Sousa) was fractious in the starting gates. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that he must attempt to rectify the horse’s starting gate manners prior to its next race start. AL SHEMALI (GB) (R French) and RED DUKE (USA) (J Spencer) were slow to begin. Making the bend near the 800m, SO BEAUTIFUL (FR) (P Hanagan) shifted outwards forcing AL SHEMALI (GB) out across the heels of NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) (D O'Neill). Given that Jockey R Ffrench (AL SHEMALI [GB]) had left the course, an enquiry into this matter was adjourned.

After arriving at the starting gates with blood evident in its mouth, LE DRAKKAR (AUS) (T O'Shea) underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. DAFEEF (GB) (P Hanagan) and ARNOLD LANE (IRE) (M Harley) both began awkwardly. Near the 1300m, JAASOOS (IRE) (J Doyle) shifted inwards abruptly, carrying ARNOLD LANE (IRE) inwards, which crowded DISA LEADER (SAF) (J Geroudis) and FISCAL (GB) (H Bentley), with both DISA LEADER (SAF) and FISCAL (GB) having to be severely restrained. AMANEE (AUS) (C Soumillon), which was racing to the inside of FISCAL (GB) at this time, was also inconvenienced. DON'T CALL ME (IRE) (A Nicholls), which was racing behind DISA LEADER (SAF) at this time, was eased outwards to avoid DISA LEADER (SAF) and in doing so inconvenienced DAFEEF (GB). A short distance later, JAASOOS (IRE) (J Doyle) continued to shift inwards, carrying ANAEROBIO (ARG) (P Cosgrave) inwards onto FIREBEAM (GB) (M Barzalona) causing FIREBEAM (GB) to be restrained. On enquiry Jockey J Doyle was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i). Given the severity of the carelessness and the resultant interference, Jockey J Doyle was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 meetings (Meydan 19th January, Abu Dhabi 20th January, Meydan 24th January, Jebel Ali 25th January and Abu Dhabi 27th January 2013). Near the 300m, LE DRAKKAR (AUS) shifted outwards causing DON'T CALL ME (IRE) to ease and alter course to its inside. LE DRAKKAR (AUS) then continued to shift outwards, causing FIREBEAM (GB) to be restrained outwards onto the tiring AMANEE (AUS), which was eased away from the heels of KENNY POWERS (GB). On enquiry, Jockey T O’Shea (LE DRAKKAR [AUS]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Meydan 19 January and Abu Dhabi 20 January 2013). Supplementary Report from Abu Dhabi race meeting, Sunday 6 January 2013 Held at ERA (Meydan) Offices on Tuesday 8 January 2013 Race 4. Arabian Triple Crown Round 1 (Listed) 1600m At an adjourned enquiry into Jockey S Trabelsi’s ride on ALKAR (FR), the Stewards questioned Jockey S Trabelsi and also Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami regarding the apparent lack of control that Jockey S Trabelsi had over his mount. The Stewards showed Jockey S Trabelsi and Trainer I Al Hadhrami video footage of this race. Given previous similar issues, the Stewards determined to recommend to the ERA Licensing Committee that the Jockey Licence of Mr S Trabelsi be withdrawn immediately, and that Mr S Trabelsi be advised that he is required to undergo additional formal riding training/education at an accredited race riding school, prior to him being considered for a Jockey Licence with the ERA in the future. These recommendations have subsequently been endorsed by the ERA Licensing Committee, and therefore the Jockey Licence of Mr S Trabelsi has been withdrawn and he is not able to take rides. Race 5. Wathba Stud Farm Cup (For Private Owners Only) 1600m At an adjourned enquiry, the Stewards sought explanations from Jockey S Trabelsi and Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami as to the reasons how and why the Ear Plugs were removed from PRIME D’OR (FR) during the running of this race. After considering all of the evidence before them, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey S Trabelsi had removed the Ear Plugs from PRIME D’OR (FR) during the race, and under the provisions of ERA Rule 9(xvi)(b), Jockey S Trabelsi was fined AED 2000 for breaching the Rule relating the use and removal of Ear Plugs (ERA Rule 63(iii)). Notwithstanding that Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami had admitted that on previous occasions, he had instructed riders to remove Ear Plugs from his horses, on this occasion on Sunday 6 January 2013, the Stewards could not be satisfied on the evidence available to them, that he had instructed Jockey S Trabelsi to remove the Ear Plugs from PRIME D’OR (FR). As a consequence, no action was taken against Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami.
