COUNTERGLOW (IRE) (A Murgia), which got kicked after arriving at the starting gates, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. SAMURAI SWORD (GB) (A Ajtebi) was slow to begin. FAMOUS WARRIOR (IRE) (P Dobbs) and THEO DANON (GER) (A De Vries) both jumped awkwardly and bumped. SAMURAI SWORD (GB) ran wide making the home bend. MUSHREQ (AUS) (P Hanagan) was unable to obtain clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m. Jockey K Fallon reported that BURANO (IRE) hung inwards throughout. Jockey A Ajtebi reported that SAMURAI SWORD (GB) hung outwards throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of PAENE MAGNUS (IRE), Jockey K Manning stated that whilst the horse felt fine in its action, in his opinion the colt did not travel well at any stage during the race. He advised further that he had been informed that the colt had been working well and was expected to run well. A post-race veterinary examination of PAENE MAGNUS (IRE) revealed no abnormalities.

WHAILEYY (IRE) stumbled as the gates opened dislodging Jockey M Harley. As WHAILEYY (IRE) regained its feet, it bumped with HITCHENS (IRE) (S De Sousa). ADDICTIVE DREAM (IRE) (A Nicholls) and GARBAH (IRE) (R Ffrench) bumped on jumping. BALLISTA (IRE) (R Kingscote) was crowded at the start between OASIS DANCER (GB) (K Fallon) and KAVANAGH (SAF) (J Geroudis). Passing the 1100m, GARBAH (IRE) after beginning awkwardly and being urged forward, was carried inwards by REYNALDOTHEWIZARD (USA) (R Mullen), which drifted inwards momentarily away from GANAS (IRE) (T O’Shea), which was shifting inwards. In doing so, GARBAH (IRE) bumped with OASIS DANCER (GB) (K Fallon) and was eased. On enquiry, it was noted that GANAS (IRE) had commenced and was moving away very quickly, and that Jockey R Mullen (REYNALDOTHEWIZARD [USA]) was of the opinion that Jockey T O’Shea (GANAS [IRE]) was clear when he crossed him. However, the Stewards noted that it appeared evident that REYNALDOTHEWIZARD (USA) did drift inwards away from GANAS (IRE) albeit momentarily. Given the resultant interference to GARBAH (IRE) was minor, Jockey T O’Shea (GANAS [IRE]) was warned and advised that in similar circumstances, he should exercise greater care and not shift inwards so abruptly. GARBAH (IRE) returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr A Al Raihe was advised that GARBAH (IRE) would not be permitted to start until it had passed a satisfactory gallop test in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer, to be conducted not before 21 days from the date of bleeding. A post-race veterinary examination of WHAILEYY (IRE) revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth due to an oral injury. WAFFLE (IRE) (H Bentley) returned lame in the left fore. Trainer Mr T Barron was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to be entered to race again. Jockey K Fallon reported that OASIS DANCER (GB) did not feel right in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination of OASIS DANCER (GB) revealed no abnormalities. Jockey J Geroudis (KAVANAGH [SAF]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond.

Just prior to making the home bend, AMANEE (AUS) (C Soumillon) was disappointed for a run behind DARK ORCHID (USA) (T Durcan) and to the inside of SAJJHAA (GB) (S De Sousa). AMANEE (AUS) then endeavoured to angle around DARK ORCHID (USA) making the home bend and in doing so made contact with SAJJHAA (GB). As Jockey C Soumillon (AMANEE [AUS]) continued to endeavour to angle outwards, AMANEE (AUS) made further contact with SAJJHAA (GB) causing it to be turned inwards onto AMANEE (AUS), with both horses becoming unbalanced for a short distance. AMANEE (AUS) then angled around SAJJHAA (GB) to obtain clear running passing the 300m. At a subsequent enquiry, after hearing the explanations and views of both Jockeys, and viewing the available patrol footage with both Jockeys, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey S de Sousa (SAJJHAA [GB]) was maintaining his line to the outside of AMANEE (AUS) as he was entitled to, and it was the movement of Jockey C Soumillon endeavouring to angle AMANEE (AUS) outwards around DARK ORCHID (USA), that made the initial contact with SAJJHAA (GB). The Stewards also noted that DARK ORCHID (USA) may have drifted outwards marginally during this incident, as it commenced to tire, and that this may have accentuated the awkward position that Jockey C Soumillon (AMANEE [AUS]) found himself in. Jockey K Fallon reported that SPELLWORK (USA) did not feel right in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SPELLWORK (USA) revealed no abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth due to an oral injury.

FINJAAN (GB) (D O’Neill) was slow to begin. Shortly after jumping, REX IMPERATOR (GB) (A Nicholls) drifted inwards away from IL GRANDE MAURIZIO (IRE) (R Ffrench) and crowded RASSAM (IRE) (S De Sousa). Making the bend near the 1000m, FINJAAN (GB), which was racing keenly, was restrained away from the heels of QUICK WIT (GB) (T Durcan). When questioned regarding the performance of JET LEGEND (SAF), Jockey P Hanagan stated that he has ridden the horse at home in morning trackwork and the horse has a tendency to become heated. He further added that the horse was very worked up prior to the race tonight and the performance should be overlooked. When questioned regarding the performance of TRADE STORM (GB), Jockey C Soumillon stated that the horse will benefit from this run.
