ANAEROBIO (ARG) (P Cosgrave) began awkwardly. ENERGIA DAVOS (BRZ) (T O’Shea) and ALKIMOS (IRE) (K Fallon) were slow to begin. MUSHREQ (AUS) (P Hanagan) jumped outwards at the start crowding AKEED WAFI (IRE) (R Ffrench) out onto SALON SOLDIER (GER) (A Starke). ANAEROBIO (ARG) raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1800m, bumped with MUSHREQ (AUS), when that horse drifted outwards away from ADROITLY (AUS) (M Barzalona), which drifted outwards. ANAEROBIO (ARG) then continued to race keenly until the middle stages. After making the home bend, ALKIMOS (IRE) was impeded for clear running in the home straight and after leaving the 100m, ALKIMOS (IRE) sustained an injury to its left hind leg. Following a post-race veterinary examination, ALKIMOS (IRE) was euthanised.

BEAT BABY (IRE) (P Graberg) reared and broke through the front of the starting gates and was reined in near the 900m. BEAT BABY (IRE) was subsequently examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Trainer Mr N Petersen was advised that BEAT BABY (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. DESERT LAW (IRE) (S De Sousa) was fractious in the starting gates. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that he must attempt to rectify the gelding’s starting gate manners prior to racing again. DESERT LAW (IRE) was crowded on jumping between TEMPLE MEADS (GB) (R Mullen) and RUSSIAN SOUL (IRE) (S Foley), which was bumped inwards by SHOLAAN (IRE) (T O’Shea), which jumped inwards. Approaching the 300m, SHEA SHEA (SAF) (C Soumillon) ran outwards carrying SHOLAAN (IRE) wider on the track. After leaving the 100m, SHEA SHEA (SAF) and SHOLAAN (IRE) bumped. Jockey H Bentley (MEDICEAN MAN [GB]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency. Jockey A Nicholls (INXILE [IRE]) was fined AED 1500 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) and (vii) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency and without giving his mount time to respond. When questioned regarding the performance of SHEA SHEA (SAF), Jockey C Soumillon stated that the gelding should benefit from tonight’s run.

After initially being declared as a replacement rider for Jockey D O’Donohoe on IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB), Jockey R Kingscote became indisposed after weighing out. Jockey D O’Neill was then substituted as the rider of IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) and weighed out with the horse then being re-saddled prior to the event. ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) (C O’Donoghue) was slow to begin. SMOOTH OPERATOR (GER) (T Durcan) began awkwardly. ARNOLD LANE (IRE) (M Harley) raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1000m, FIRST CITY (GB) (R Ffrench) commenced to race keenly and did so for a short distance to the inside of LOCKWOOD (GB) (S De Sousa), when that horse drifted inwards. ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) was impeded for clear running rounding the home bend and then on straightening after ARNOLD LANE (IRE) angled outwards around PIED A TERRE (AUS) (K Fallon), ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) was eased and angled to the inside of ARNOLD LANE (IRE). Jockey C Soumillon (REROUTED [USA]) was fined AED 1500 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) in that he used his whip without allowing time for his mount to respond. Jockey M Barzalona (VAN ELLIS [GB]) was fined AED 2000 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency.

Leaving the 100m, SHARESTAN (IRE) and ALBAASIL (IRE) (P Dobbs) raced tight and bumped between DERBAAS (USA) and AESOP’S FABLES (USA) (K Fallon), and then approaching the 50m, as AESOP’S FABLES (USA) drifted inwards slightly, this carried ALBAASIL (IRE) and SHARESTAN (IRE) inwards onto DERBAAS (USA), which was eased.

SAAMIDD (GB) (S De Sousa), RED DUBAWI (IRE) (F Lynch), FIELD OF DREAM (GB) (H Turner) and MONTMORENCY (IRE) (R Mullen) were slow to begin. DUBAWI SOUND (GB) (H Bentley) began awkwardly. CAPTAIN RAMIUS (IRE) (P Hanagan) and ROSENDHAL (IRE) (C O’Donoghue) bumped shortly after jumping. A short distance later, KAVANAGH (SAF) (J Geroudis) drifted outwards slightly, crowding CAPTAIN RAMIUS (IRE) out onto ROSENDHAL (IRE). Near the 1300m, KAVANAGH (SAF) shifted outwards around BENJI’S EMPIRE (AUS) (T Durcan) and carried ROSENDHAL (IRE) outwards, which crowded JAASOOS (IRE) (J Doyle) outwards towards TIME PRISONER (USA) (M Barzalona), which was crowded and carried inwards by DUX SCHOLAR (GB) (K Fallon), which shifted inwards away from TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) (T O’Shea), which was carried inwards momentarily by JUSTINEO (GB) (S Foley), which was moving forward quickly. At this time, JAASOOS (IRE) was severely restrained, almost dislodging its rider, Jockey J Doyle. FINAL BUTTON (SAF) (P Cosgrave) and CAPTAIN RAMIUS (IRE), which were following, were both impeded as a consequence. ROSENDHAL (IRE) then drifted outwards crowding TIME PRISONER (USA) outwards towards DUX SCHOLAR (GB), causing TIME PRISONER (USA) to be restrained. On enquiry, based on the evidence before them, the Stewards noted that the initial crowding to JAASOOS (IRE) was caused by movement from the inside from KAVANAGH (SAF) carrying ROSENDHAL (IRE) outwards, which caused JAASOOS (IRE) to be crowded and race in restricted room. This crowding to JAASOOS (IRE) was then worsened when TIME PRISONER (USA) was carried inwards by DUX SCHOLAR (GB) as it shifted inwards away from TERTIO BLOOM (SWE). Whilst it was evident on the film that TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) was shifting inwards with JUSTINEO (GB) racing forward and to its outside, it was also evident that there was room between TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) and DUX SCHOLAR (GB), and it did appear that DUX SCHOLAR (GB) had its head turned outwards as it ran inwards away from TERTIO BLOOM (SWE). Whilst the resultant interference to JAASOOS (IRE) was significant, based on the evidence available to them, the Stewards were of the opinion that there were a number contributing factors, and could therefore not be satisfied that any one rider was fully culpable. Accordingly no action was taken, other than to issue a general warning to all riders to be extremely mindful of the safety of both themselves and their fellow riders. Leaving the 250m, FIELD OF DREAM (SAF) was crowded for room and blundered when racing between FINAL BUTTON (SAF) to its inside, and JAASOOS (IRE) to its outside. An enquiry into this incident was adjourned until all riders can be interviewed. JAASOOS (IRE) had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until near the 100m. JAASOOS (IRE) returned with lacerations to its left hind leg.
