LA KALAM (GB) (C Sanchez) raced keenly between the 1400m and 1200m. MIDNIGHT MOON (GB) (D O’Neill) and LA KALAM (GB) were both momentarily impeded for clear running just prior to making the home bend. Passing the 1200m, NEED TO KNOW (SAF), after beginning awkwardly and being urged forward, was eased away from the heels of DUBAI ICONIC (USA) (R Mullen) after it had drifted inwards. Near the 800m, RITUAL (IRE) (A de Vries), when racing keenly, was crowded and eased between FURNACE (IRE) (S Hitchcott) and NEED TO KNOW (SAF), which shifted outwards slightly. Leaving the 800m, DUBAI ICONIC (USA) was momentarily eased away from the heels of HAJJAAN (USA) (P Hanagan) when that horse was eased. COMMANDER CAVE (USA) (K Fallon) and GRIZZLE (GB) bumped making the home bend. DUBAI ICONIC (USA) returned with lacerations to its right hind leg.

SAND STAMP (FR) (W Smith) was difficult to load. Trainer Mr M Al Muhairi was advised that he must attempt to rectify the starting gate manners of SAND STAMP (FR) prior to its next race start. SPIRIT OF BATTLE (USA) (T O’Shea) was slow to begin. MON CADEAUX (GB) (A Ajtebi) began awkwardly. SILAAH (GB) (P Dobbs) began awkwardly and then bumped with SEACHANTACH (USA) (M Monaghan). Shortly after the start, REDEMPTOR (GB) (D O’Neill) and BON GRAIN (FR) (J Santiago) were crowded and eased between NAWWAAR (USA) (P Hanagan) and ALO PURA (GB) (J Doyle), which veered inwards. As the field linked up with the course proper near the 450m, MURAWEG (IRE) (K Fallon) shifted outwards away from NAWWAAR (USA), which drifted outwards, and crowded LES TROYENS (GB) (S de Sousa) outwards, bumping SILAAH (GB), causing it to become unbalanced. Jockey S de Sousa (LES TROYENS [GB]) was found to have breached ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i), in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle, and was fined AED 2500.

ROYAL DESTINATION (IRE) (T O’Shea) began awkwardly and bumped with SPECIFIC GRAVITY (FR) (C Soumillon). NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) (R Ffrench) was crowded on jumping between CLUB OCEANIC (GB) (J Doyle) and DORIAN CROWN (GB) (K Ulubaev). Leaving the 1500m, FLAG OFFICER (GB) (S de Sousa) shifted inwards causing CLUB OCEANIC (GB) to be restrained. NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE), which was following CLUB OCEANIC (GB), was eased as a consequence. On enquiry, Jockey S de Sousa (FLAG OFFICER [GB]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was suspended from riding in races for three days (28 February 2013 at Meydan, 2 March 2013 at Meydan and 3 March 2013 at Abu Dhabi). EXPENSE CLAIM (IRE) (M Barzalona) was impeded for clear running in the early parts of the home straight and leaving the 300m, shifted outwards around the heels of CLUB OCEANIC (GB) causing NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) to be momentarily eased. On enquiry, Jockey M Barzalona (EXPENSE CLAIM [IRE]) was warned and advised that he must ensure that he is fully clear when shifting ground in future. EDDIE JOCK (IRE) (R Mullen) was impeded for clear running from near the 350m to near the 300m, and then again from near the 150m to near the 100m. DR FAUSTUS (IRE) (P Dobbs) was impeded for clear running in the early parts of the home straight until near the 200m. Jockey K Fallon reported that ROCKS OFF (GB) felt amiss in its action on pulling up after the race. A post-race veterinary examination of ROCKS OFF (GB) revealed the horse to be lame in the right fore. Trainer Mr F Nass was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required for ROCKS OFF (GB) prior to it being permitted to be entered to race again. DORIAN CROWN (GB) returned having lost its right fore shoe and with its left fore shoe having shifted during running. JAWHAR (IRE) (P Hanagan) returned having lost its right hind shoe in running. Jockey K Ulubaev (DORIAN CROWN [GB]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency.

Trainer Mr A Al Raihe was fined AED 250 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(v) in that he did not engage Jockey C Soumillon prior to declaring him to ride. LAYALI DUBAI (USA) (S de Sousa) was difficult to load and was fractious in the starting gates. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that he must attempt to rectify the starting gate manners of LAYALI DUBAI (USA) prior to its next race start. BLUE TIGER’S EYE (IRE) was impeded for clear running prior to making the home bend behind MOONLIGHT DASH (GB) (R Mullen) and to the inside of MAWHUB (GB) (K Fallon). After making the home bend, BLUE TIGER’S EYE (IRE) was impeded for clear running and leaving the 250m, shifted outwards around MAWHUB (GB) causing INTHAR (USA) to be restrained.
