DARKENING (IRE) (T O’Shea) was difficult to load, was fractious in the starting gates, and then stumbled on jumping. Trainer Mr I Mohammed was advised that DARKENING (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to it being permitted to be entered to race again. DEAUVILLE PRINCE (FR) (R Kingscote) and STASIO (USA) (W Buick) bumped on jumping. SECRET NUMBER (GB) (K Fallon) was slow to begin. SNOWBOARDER (USA) (M Barzalona) raced keenly in the early stages, and passing the 1700m was eased when ZAHEE (NZ) (C Soumillon) was eased inwards away from I’M BACK (IRE) (S de Sousa) when that horse eased. SNOWBOARDER (USA) then continued to race very strongly and was restrained away from the heels of ZAHEE (NZ) placing Jockey M Barzalona in some difficulty until the 1500m. Leaving the 100m, ELLEVAL (IRE) (F Lynch) and SNOWBOARDER (USA) raced tight and were both restrained to the inside of ZAHEE (NZ), when that horse drifted inwards away from SECRET NUMBER (GB), which was shifting inwards. On enquiry, whilst it was acknowledged that Jockey K Fallon (SECRET NUMBER [GB]) had shifted inwards, the Stewards felt that ZAHEE (NZ) had contributed to the incident by shifting inwards away from SECRET NUMBER (GB), and accordingly Jockey K Fallon was given the benefit of the doubt and was issued a warning. Jockey A Delpech (EMOTIF [ARG]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. Jockey W Buick reported that STASIO (USA) was making an irregular noise with its breathing. A post-race veterinary examination of STASIO (USA) revealed no abnormalities.

PRINCE BISHOP (IRE) (R Moore) and MENDIP (USA) (J Murtagh) began awkwardly. Approaching the 150m, SURFER (USA) (R Mullen) drifted inwards slightly, obliging KASSIANO (GER) (W Buick) to be eased momentarily and angled around the heels of SURFER (USA). Jockey J Murtagh reported that MENDIP (USA) was reluctant to race in the early stages of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of LITTLE MIKE (USA), Jockey K Fallon advised that in his opinion the horse may not have acted effectively on the surface. When questioned regarding the performance of DADDY LONG LEGS (USA), Jockey C Soumillon advised that as soon as LITTLE MIKE (USA) moved up to his inside near the 800m, the horse was immediately under pressure and then failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination of DADDY LONG LEGS (USA) revealed no abnormalities.

After arriving at the starting gates, the Tongue Tie on MASTER OF HOUNDS (USA) (P Cosgrave) was refitted. CITY STYLE (USA) (M Barzalona) began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, IGUAZU FALLS (USA) (J Murtagh) and SIDE GLANCE (GB) (J Spencer) were crowded between SHARESTAN (IRE) (S de Sousa) and THE APACHE (SAF) (C Soumillon), which shifted inwards. SIDE GLANCE (GB) then raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1500m, ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) (R Ffrench) was restrained when racing to the inside of SAJJHAA (GB) (W Buick), which was racing to the inside of CITY STYLE (USA), which was racing to the inside of IGUGU (AUS) (A Delpech), which was racing keenly. On enquiry, whilst it was established that IGUGU (AUS) had shifted inwards at this stage of the race, the Stewards felt that Jockey A Delpech had made sufficient efforts to stop the mare from shifting inwards, and that the racing manners of IGUGU (AUS) were the main contributing factor to this incident. Accordingly no action was taken against Jockey A Delpech (IGUGU [AUS]). SAJJHAA (GB) was impeded for clear running after making the home bend until leaving the 200m. Jockey A Delpech (IGUGU [AUS]) was fined AED 1,500 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle.
