CRACKDOWN (IRE) was slow into stride. On jumping DOUBLE BASS (USA) and SOWAYLM (GB) were tightened for room between COLMAR KID (IRE) on the inside which shifted out and RU’OUD (GB) on the outside which shifted in. Approaching the 1200 metres RU’OUD (GB) and DARBANDIKHAN (USA) checked. P Cosgrave, the rider of TOUCH GOLD (IRE), admitted to breaching the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the 1200 metres he permitted TOUCH GOLD (IRE) to shift in when insufficiently clear of DARBANDIKHAN (USA), resulting in DARBANDIKHAN (USA) being checked and taken in onto RU’OUD (GB), which had to be checked as a result. P Cosgrave had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race-meetings (ABU DHABI 5th January 2014 and MEYDAN 9th January 2014).

INTERPRET (USA) proved difficult to load and was slow to stride. Mr M Al Muhairi, the trainer of INTERPRET (USA), was notified that prior to the horse being entered to race again it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. Mr D Selvaratnam, the trainer of EMMROOZ (GB), when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding, explained that this was the third start back since EMMROOZ (GB) had suffered a serious injury. He further added that it had been close to a month since EMMROOZ (GB) had its last start and that the gelding had showed natural improvement. A post-race veterinary examination of EL MANSOUR (USA) revealed the gelding to have a contusion to its left knee. During the running of the event EMMROOZ (GB) lost its left front plate.

After being placed in its barrier, GREAT NAMOOS (GB) became fractious and got down in the barriers. GREAT NAMOOS (GB) was removed from barriers and after undergoing a veterinary examination, GREAT NAMOOS (GB) was withdrawn at 4.45pm, due to being lame in the left-hind leg. Mr A Al Shamsi, the trainer of GREAT NAMOOS (GB), was notified that prior to the colt being entered to race again it must complete one satisfactory stalls test as well as submitting a veterinary certificate of fitness. YEAR OF GLORY (IRE) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was slow to begin. Mr S Seemar, the trainer of YEAR OF GLORY (IRE), was notified that a warning would be placed on the colt. DRESS DOWN (USA) was slow into stride. On jumping, ALBAYAN (IRE) shifted out bumping MATADOR DE TOROS (SAF). Passing the 400 metres, RETURNING HERO (GB) which was racing greenly, steadied and came to the outside of DRESS DOWN (USA) to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination of MATADOR DE TOROS (SAF), which performed poorly, revealed the gelding to be lame in the left-hind leg. Mr M Al Muhairi, the trainer of MATADOR DE TOROS (SAF), was notified that prior to the gelding being entered to race again a veterinary certificate of fitness is required for MATADOR DE TOROS (SAF).
