GABRIAL (IRE) was slow to begin. FANTASTIC MOON (GB) raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight GABRIAL (IRE) was held up for a clear run. Passing the 300 metres SANSHAWEES (SAF) angled outwards causing WITHOUT FEAR (FR) to check. C Soumillon, the jockey of SANSHAAWES (SAF), pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of ERA Rule 69(i), the careless riding being that he shifted SANSHAAWES (SAF) out, passing the 300 metres, when not clear of WITHOUT FEAR (FR). C Soumillon had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race-meetings (MEYDAN 1ST February 2014 and ABU DHABI 2ND February 2014). Approaching the 100 metres, VASILY (GB) had to be checked. On inquiry, it was established that GABRIAL (IRE), which was making ground quickly, shifted inwards away from EL ESTRUENDOSO (ARG) which was racing to its outside and shifting in. As a result VASILY (GB) was tightened for room and had to be checked. As the Stewards were of the view that GABRIAL’S (IRE) racing manners were a major contributor to this incident, no action was taken, other than to advise P Cosgrave, the rider of EL ESTRUENDOSO (ARG), that he must make every effort to keep his mounts straight.
