Acting on a confirmed telephone call from a stable representative of Trainer Mr A Al Raihe, who advised that MAX BEAUTY (FR) had injured its left-hind fetlock and was lame, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the filly at 3.40 pm. As the start was effected SALVADORI (IRE) stood flat footed and lost considerable ground. JOURNEYMAN (SAF) and MAKE IT REEL (FR) bumped at the start. On jumping DUBAWI FUN (GB) commenced awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with MAN AMONGST MEN (IRE). Shortly after the start JOURNEYMAN (SAF) and EYE IN THE SKY (IRE) raced tight brushing on several occasions. PRETEND (IRE) and FIGURE OF SPEECH (IRE) both over-raced in the early stages. NAJM SUHAIL (GB) raced wide without cover throughout. MAKE IT REEL (FR) hung out in the straight. SALVADORI (IRE) which was making ground was held up over the final 50 metres. Approaching the winning post HE’S NO SAINT (GB) veered outwards. A post-race veterinary examination of PRETEND (IRE) failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

TENENBAUM (GB) and THECORNISHCOCKNEY (GB) both commenced awkwardly. On jumping away RALSTON ROAD (IRE) was tightened for room between STAR EMPIRE (SAF) and MANALAPAN (IRE) that was taken out by TANFEETH (GB). BALLADRY (USA), THECORNISHCOCKNEY (GB), RALSTON ROAD (IRE) and JEDI (GB) all over-raced in the early stages. JEDI (GB) raced wide without cover in the middle stages. On straightening, EXCELLENT RESULT (IRE) was held up and then shifted outwards inconveniencing THECORNISHCOCKNEY (GB). Approaching the 100 metres RALSTON ROAD (IRE) was blocked for a clear run. Jockey L Dettori (MANALAPAN (IRE)) reported that the colt made respiratory sounds throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of TENENBAUM (GB) revealed the gelding to be lame in the left foreleg. Trainer Mr C Appleby (TENEBAUM (GB)) was notified that prior to the gelding being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for TENEBAUM (GB).

INTERPRET (USA) and PRINCE ALZAIN (USA) were both slow to begin. ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE), SURFER (USA) and PRINCE ALZAIN (USA) all over-raced in the early stages. HUNTER’S LIGHT (IRE) raced wide without cover in the early stages. PRINCE BISHOP (IRE) raced wide without cover in the middle stages. Approaching the 400 metres AFRICAN STORY (GB) was momentarily held up. Passing the 200 metres, ZAHEE (NZ) when taking a run to the inside of SURFER (USA), bumped with EMPIRE STORM (GER) which was laying outwards. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BATTLE OF MARENGO (IRE), Jockey L Dettori explained that the colt had become agitated in the parade ring and sweated up badly and had shown no acceleration throughout the race. When question Trainer Mr E Oertel expressed disappointment with the performance as BATTLE OF MARENGO (IRE) had been working well and he had expected a forward showing. He advised he would monitor the recovery of the colt and inform the Stewards accordingly. A post-race veterinary examination of BATTLE OF MARENGO (IRE) failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
