RALSTON ROAD (IRE), SEISMOS (IRE), SADDLER’S ROCK (IRE) and NOW WE CAN (GB) all over-raced in the early stages. After being placed in the barrier stalls FESTIVE CHEER (FR) became fractious and underwent a veterinary examination by the ERA veterinary officer and passed fit to race. AMBIVALENT (IRE) was slow to begin. TWILIGHT ECLIPSE (USA) over-raced in the early stages and raced wide without cover throughout. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MARS (IRE) commenced to race ungenerously, throwing its head up and approaching the 1900 metres veered outwards and stumbled, severely inconveniencing EMPOLI (GER). MARS (IRE) then continued to veer outwards striking the outside running rail and dislodged Jockey R Hughes. MARS (IRE) then collapsed on the track. The veterinary officer reported that the colt had suffered an episode of cardiac failure and expired. Jockey R Hughes was transported to hospital for observation. Approaching the 2000 metres GENTILDONNA (JPN), which was over-racing, shifted in carrying AMBIVALENT (IRE) in onto DUNADEN (FR) with MOUNT ATHOS (IRE) racing to the inside being inconvenienced. Jockey C Soumillon (CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars of the charge being that approaching the 200 metres, he permitted his mount CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR) to shift in and tighten GENTILDONNA (JPN) , which had to be restrained. C Soumillon had his license to ride in races suspended for 3 race-meetings (provisional dates being the 7th April 2014, 8th April 2014 and 9th April 2014, the dates to be confirmed with the France Galop under the provisions of ERA Rule 99(i)). Following this incident GENTILDONNA (JPN) was then taken outwards forcing MEANDRE (FR) wide. MAGICIAN (IRE) was held up in the early part of the straight and then raced in restricted room over the final 200 metres. Jockey L Dettori (DUBDAY (GB)) reported that the colt raced in a flat manner. A post-race veterinary examination of both DUBDAY (GB) and FESTIVE CHEER (FR) revealed no abnormalities.
