Stewards' Reports for Arabian Triple Crown R3
Prior to correct weight Jockey T O’Shea (NYMPHEA DU PAON (FR)), which was placed 2nd, lodged an objection against SWWING (FR), being declared the winner, alleging interference passing the 200 metres. After considering the evidence of all parties concerned and viewing the video footage of the incident it was the opinion of the Stewards that passing the 200 metres SWWING (FR) shifted ground inwards, on two occasions, bumping NYMPHEA DU PAON (FR) onto the running rail and severely hampering the filly. As the Stewards were satisfied that NYMPHEA DU PAON (FR) would have finished in front of SWWING (FR) had the interference not occurred the protest was upheld and placings amended to read as the following; 1st NYMPHEA DU PAON (FR) (T O’Shea) 2nd SWWING (FR) (T Durcan) 3rd BURJ KHALIFA (FR) (D Muscutt) 4th MUBASHER (FR) (H Bentley) HAANOOF (FR) raced wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn BURJ KHALIFA (FR) had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of SWWING (FR) which shifted in. Jockey T Durcan (SWWING (FR)) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that approaching the 150 metres, after straightening SWWING (FR) which had been laying in, he struck the colt with whip in his left hand causing SWWING (FR) to shift in, resulting in NYMPHEA DU PAON (FR) being bumped on to the running rail and being severely hampered. Jockey T Durcan had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race-meetings (MEYDAN 13th March 2014 & AL AIN 14th March 2014). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account T Durcan’s good careless riding record.
