ASIFA (IRE) hung out throughout. In the straight SPECIAL BOY (IRE) lay out and near the 100 metres NEEDLELEAF (USA) had to be momentarily steadied from that gelding’s heels.

A’JUBA (GB) which was fractious in the barriers, reared on jumping and lost ground. DIWAAN (GB) was slow to begin. EXTROVERTED (GB) stumbled on jumping. Jockey A Ajtebi (A’JUBA (GB)), which finished last, explained that the gelding made a respiratory noise during the race. Jockey R Mullen (SLEW DE BEAUNE (ARG)) reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action behind. A post-race veterinary examination of SLEW DE BEAUNE (ARG) revealed no abnormalities. During the running of the race SLEW DE BEAUNE (ARG) lost its left fore plate.
