Near the 400 metres shifted out off the heels of another runner bumping with another runner. SENNOCKIAN STAR (GB) – (S De Sousa): Approaching and passing the 1800 metres steadied when racing in restricted room. Near the 400 metres was bumped heavily by another runner. VAN ROONEY (USA) – (A De Vries): Commenced awkwardly. OTTOMAN EMPIRE (FR) – (R Mullen): Slow to begin. SCIGHERA (GB) – (R Hughes): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth. Trainer Mr T Kodama reported that on return to the stable the filly was found to be lame in the right hind. Trainer was notified that prior to the filly being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the filly. AVON PEARL (GB) – (L Dettori): A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. THA’IR (IRE) – (J Doyle): Lay inwards over the final 200 metres. GENERAL: Jockey J Doyle (THA’IR [IRE]) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess.

Trainer Mr J Osborne was notified that prior to the colt being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the colt. SHAISHEE (USA) – (S De Sousa): Slow to begin. BEAT BABY (IRE) – (P Garberg): On jumping shifted out abruptly. When questioned, rider explained that the gelding had been disappointing and had hung outwards in the straight. He could offer no other explanation. REYNALDOTHEWIZARD (USA) – (R Mullen): Hampered at the start and lost ground. Made the turn into the straight wide. RAFEEJ (GB) – (P Hanagan): Rider reported that the horse made respiratory noises throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

EMPIRE STORM (GER) – (M Ennis): Lay outwards under pressure in the straight. ROMANSH (USA) – (M Barzalona): Near the 1500 metres, checked severely, blundered, nearly dislodging its rider and lost considerable ground and as a consequence took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. GOLD PEARL (USA) – (M Monaghan): Raced wide without cover throughout. BUSKER (USA) – (A De Vries): Passing the 1500 metres, checked severely and shifted inwards quickly. GENERAL: Stewards inquired into the reason for ROMANSH (USA) and BUSKER (USA) having to be severely checked near the 1500 metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice M Monaghan (GOLD PEARL (USA)), Jockey M Barzalona (ROMANSH (USA)), Jockey M Ennis (EMPIRE STORM (GER)), Jockey W Buick (FENCING(USA)) and Jockey A De Vries (BUSKER (USA)). Following an inquiry it was established that ROMANSH (USA) had not commenced cleanly and shortly after the start made ground quickly into the field. Near the 1500 metres EMPIRE STORM (M Ennis) had lay outwards marginally away from FENCING (USA) (W. Buick) which was racing to its inside and as a consequence ROMANSH (USA) struck the heels of EMPIRE STORM blundered and checked severely. Busker which was following checked severely in consequence and shifted abruptly to the inside. On the evidence before them, the Stewards could not hold any one rider culpable but advised all riders to exercise great care in similar circumstances.
