When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding the rider explained that FRANCISTOWN (IRE) raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. GRATUITIES (USA) - (X Ziani): Lay in under pressure from the 300 metres. BIG SIGH (IRE) - (T O'Shea): Dipped on jumping. FORGIVETHENFORGET (GB) - (J Gordon): Near the 350 metres had to be momentarily steadied off heels. SAJAH (IRE) - (C Noble): Saddle had to be re-adjusted at the barrier prior to the start. Commenced awkwardly and stumbled soon after. Travelled wide without cover in the early and middle stages. During the middle stages the saddle shifted forward placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for FORGIVETHENFORGET (GB)(J Gordon) having to be momentarily steadied near the 350 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that approaching the 350 metres GRATUITIES (USA)(X Ziani) shifted in and away from SECURITIES (IRE)(C O’Donoghue), which had commenced to shift inwards and as a result FORGIVETHENFORGET (GB), had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of GRATUITIES (USA). Jockey X Ziani was advised to exercise more care in a similar situation.

General: Jockey D O’Neill (GALVANIZE (USA)) was fined AED 1000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(i) for hitting his mount in front of the saddle whilst holding his whip in the forehand. BUELLER (USA) - (F Jara): Lay in over the concluding stages. CINQ RUES (FR) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin. Travelled wide without cover in the middle stages. FRASERBURGH (IRE) - (R Ffrench): Slow to begin. On return to scale, the rider reported that in his opinion the gelding had pulled up lame. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a condylar fracture to its right foreleg. Trainer Mr. S bin Ghadayer was notified that prior to the gelding being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for FRASERBURGH (IRE). ASLAN (USA) - (X Ziani): Shifted out on jumping. Over the concluding stages had to be checked when tightened for room. CACHAO (GB) - (N Barzalona): Tightened for room on jumping. HAWKER (GB) - (A McLean): Slow to begin and then was bumped by another runner. INDIANA JONES (ARG) - (J Rosales): Slow to begin and then was bumped by another runner. General: Prior to the declaration of correct weight, rider X Ziani (ASLAN (USA))(4th place getter) lodged an objection against CACHAO (GB)(N Barzalona)(3rd place getter), alleging interference over the concluding stages. On viewing the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 50 metres CACHAO (GB) shifted in, resulting in ASLAN (USA) having to be checked off the heels of CACHAO (GB). Taking into account the margin of ¾ of a length and the proximity to the winning post, Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference not occurred, ASLAN (USA) would have finished in front of CACHAO (GB). As a result the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared. Apprentice N Barzalona (CACHAO (GB)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ASLAN (USA)(X Ziani), resulting in that gelding having to be checked. N Barzalona had his license to ride in races suspended for two race meetings (Meydan 09.03.2017 & Al Ain 10.03.2017). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account N Barzalona’s guilty plea, good careless riding record and deemed the interference to be in the mid-range.

Shortly after straightening was bumped by another runner. MUWAARY (AUS) - (J Gordon): Slow to begin. PUPIL (IRE) - (C Hayes): On straightening shifted out and bumped heavily with another runner. Lost its left side cheek piece passing the 200 metres. SAAJID (IRE) - (A Fresu): Was held up for a clear run in the early part of the straight and was bumped heavily by another runner, becoming unbalanced. OSTAAD (IRE) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin.
