FARRIER (USA) - (P Cosgrave): Slow to begin. LE BERNARDIN (USA) - (T O'Shea): On return to scale the rider reported that the gelding never travelled well throughout. GIFTED MASTER (IRE) - (R Moore): The gelding was extremely fractious whilst being saddled and as a result Stewards granted trainer Mr H Palmer to run GIFTED MASTER (IRE) without a shadow roll. Severely hampered by another runner approaching the 200 metres. SECOND SUMMER (USA) - (P Dobbs): Slow to begin. Momentarily eased and had to change course approaching the 200 metres. SHARP AZTECA (USA) - (E Zayas): Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Shifted out when under pressure approaching the 200 metres. NORTH AMERICA (GB) - (R Mullen): When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the rider explained that NORTH AMERICA (GB) was not suited to today’s track condition. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards ordered that a post-race sample be taken from the gelding. HEAVY METAL (GB) - (M Barzalona): When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, the rider explained that, in his opinion, the fast early tempo was detrimental to the gelding’s chances over the concluding stages. STORMARDAL (IRE) - (A de Vries): Approaching the 200 metres broke down and dislodged its rider. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a fatal injury to its right foreleg and as a result was humanely euthanized. ETIJAAH (USA) - (J Crowley): Bumped on jumping. TRIPLE NINE (KOR) - (M Rodd): Bumped on jumping and was tightened for room. FITZGERALD (USA) - (C O'Donoghue): Shifted in on jumping and bumped another runner. Following the race rider A de Vries (STORMARDAL (IRE)) was examined by the clubs doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements, however to avoid a delay he was replaced on his ride on AF AL HAZER (AE) in race 2.

SHEIKHZAYEDROAD (GB) - (M Harley): Near the 200 metres was bumped by another runner. Over the concluding stages raced in restricted room and had to be checked. FAMOUS KID (USA) - (S De Sousa): Fractious in the barrier prior to the start. VAZIRABAD (FR) - (C Soumillon): Fractious in the barrier prior to the start. Slow to begin. On straightening bumped with another runner. Bumped near the 200 metres by another runner. BIG ORANGE (GB) - (L Dettori): Near the 200 metres shifted out and bumped another runner. KINGFISHER (IRE) - (R Moore): Weakened through the field when hampered by another runner at the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse which finished last revealed KINGFISHER (IRE) to be mildly lame in the right hind leg. Trainer Mr A O’Brien was notified that prior to the horse being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for KINGFISHER (IRE). REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Slow to begin. HEARTBREAK CITY (FR) - (J Moreira): On straightening bumped with another runner. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, the rider explained that HEARTBREAK CITY (FR) raced keenly and failed to pick up when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. General: Jockey C Soumillon (VAZIRABAD (FR)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that from the 200 metres to approximately the 50 metres he permitted his mount to shift in, thereby tightening the running of SHEIKHZAYEDROAD (GB), which had to be checked as a result. C Soumillon had his license to ride in races suspended for two race meetings (France 3.4.2017 & 4.4.2017). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account C Soumillon’s guilty plea, good careless riding record and deemed the interference to be in the low range.

In issuing the charge, the Stewards acknowledged the slight shift inwards from MASTER PLAN (USA)(J Velqasuez), which was racing to the outside of FAWREE (USA), caused when that colt received pressure to its hindquarter by FAWREE. W Buick had his license to ride in races suspended for three race meetings (U.K 3.4.2017, 4.4.2017 & 5.4.2017). STALLWALKIN' DUDE (USA) - (F Geroux): On arrival at the barrier the gelding underwent a veterinary examination after having blood in its mouth and was subsequently passed suitable to race. MUARRAB (GB) - (J Crowley): When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding the rider explained that MUARRAB (GB) raced flat today and commenced to give ground rounding the home turn when placed under pressure. DIOS CORRIDA (JPN) - (S Foley): Slow to begin and shifted out on jumping. HIGH ON LIFE (GB) - (R Ffrench): Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner. Near the 800 metres had to be momentarily steadied off heels. Shifted in at the 400 metres. NOT LISTENIN'TOME (AUS) - (T Berry): Bumped on jumping. ST JOE BAY (USA) - (N Arroyo): Shifted in on jumping and bumped another runner. REYNALDOTHEWIZARD (USA) - (R Mullen): Tightened for room by another runner at the 400 metres. COMICAS (USA) - (W Buick): Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres to the home turn. Shifted in under pressure near the 400 metres. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for DUNDONNELL (USA)(C Soumillon) having to be restrained near the 800 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 800 metres DIOS CORRIDA (JPN)(S Foley) was taken in slightly by REYNALDOTHEWIZARD (USA)(R Mullen), which rolled in marginally, resulting in DUNDONNELL (USA) having to be restrained and losing ground. As Stewards were satisfied that no rider was at fault, no action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in a similar situation.

Jockey C Soumillon (MUBTAAHIJ (IRE)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he shifted in when insufficiently clear of SPECIAL FIGHTER (IRE)(F Jara) resulting in that horse having to be checked.
