THE JINAD (IRE) - (C Noble): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. CHANGE THE GAME (USA) - (N Barzalona): Rounding the home turn near the 500 metres shifted out and bumped another runner. EAGLECRAFT (USA) - (S Mazur): Slow to begin. SCANDICCI (USA) - (R Mullen): Bumped by another runner on a number of occasions rounding the turn passing the 500 metres. SECRET TRADE (IRE) - (T O'Shea): Slow to begin. SHERDAT (IRE) - (P Sirigu): When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, the rider explained that he did not persist in riding SHERDAT (IRE) out in his normal manner as she continued to change stride throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for SCANDICCI (USA)(R Mullen) being bumped on several occasions rounding the turn near the 500 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that CHANGE THE GAME (USA)(N Barzalona), was attempting to shift out and as a result bumped SCANDICCI (USA) on a number of occasions. Apprentice N Barzalona was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) and was advised to exercise more care in a similar situation.

Stewards took into account that this was G Buckell’s third offence under this rule for the season. Apprentice M Khan (MH MANSOORA (AE)) breached the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 18 occasions. Stewards noted that this was the first occasion he had breached this rule for the season. Further, M Khan also breached the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(ii) for using his whip when out of contention. Stewards noted that this was his second offence under this rule for the season. M Khan was issued with a one meeting suspension of this license to ride in races for each breach, to be served cumulatively and was therefore suspended for two race meetings (23.02.2017 Meydan & 24.02.2017 Al Ain). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the seriousness of each breach and his personal circumstances.

Became detached from the field from the 1200 metres and took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be showing signs of shin soreness. Trainer Mr K Al Neyadi was notified that prior to the colt being entered to race again AL RAMES (AE) must complete a satisfactory track gallop in the presence of the Stewards. ES LA KALAM (AE) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin. LIKE (AE) - (N Barzalona): Commenced awkwardly. MARAHIL AL REEF (AE) - (J Rosales): Stumbled shortly after the start. NAJD AL ARAB (AE) - (X Ziani): Raced wide without cover throughout. ZED AL RIH (AE) - (C Noble): After arriving on course underwent a veterinary examination, which revealed the colt to have skin lesions to its neck and flank area caused by an allergic reaction, however was not infectious. Acting on veterinary advice, the colt was passed suitable to race. AZ CILEOPATRA (AE) - (I Koyuncu): Slow to begin. General: Trainer Mr R Bouresly (AYA’ASH (QA)) was fined AED 500 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(vii) for the late gear change to race the horse with blinkers. Jockey R Ffrench (GAFEL (AE)) was fined AED 1000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 14 occasions. Stewards inquired into the ride of apprentice C Noble (ZED AL RIH (AE)), after the colt’s trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami lodged a complaint against his riding over the final 400 metres. During the inquiry jockey R Mullen represented C Noble. C Noble explained that he was instructed to lead on the colt and had to ride ZED AL RIH (AE) aggressively in the early and middle stages to stay in touch with the leading horses. He added that on straightening the colt had commenced to weaken and for this reason he sat up and did not ride ZED AL RIH (AE) out to the finish of the race. Mr I Al Hadhrami acknowledged that C Noble had ridden the horse along in the early and middle stages, however expected him to show more vigor in the straight. R Mullen explained that C Noble was a relatively inexperienced apprentice, however had ridden ZED AL RIH (AE) satisfactorily and should have continued to ride the colt along in the straight, even though its chances of being placed had clearly gone. Stewards agreed with R Mullen’s explanation and reminded C Noble of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race hands and heels. No action was taken against C Noble.
