AS BUD (AE) - (A Al Siyabi): Commenced awkwardly then restrained when tightened for room between runners. Raced wide without cover from the 800 metres. Hung out in the straight before laying in under pressure. SHOJA'A AL MEGIRAT (AE) - (M Khan): Raced wide without cover until the entrance to the straight. AL HASNA (AE) - (J Santiago): Stood flat-footed and threw its head at the start making contact with the face of its rider. J Santiago was unable to ride his mount in his normal manner in the early stages. BAYNAH (AE) – (G Buckell): Checked near the 900 metres. General: Jockey J Santiago (AL HASNA (AE)) was examined and cleared by the club’s doctor. Apprentice M Khan (SHOJA'A AL MEGIRAT (AE)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(ii) for using his whip when out of contention. Apprentice M Monaghan (QAMZAH (AE)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars of the charge being that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BAYNAH (AE)(G Buckell), which had to be checked. Apprentice M Monaghan had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race meetings (26.01.2017 Meydan & 27.01.2017 Al Ain). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Monaghan’s guilty plea, good careless riding record and deemed the interference to be in the low range.

Hung out from the 600 metres and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the race. LEGEND'S GATE (IRE) - (S Mazur): Had the tendency to lay in from the 500 metres to the 300 metres. WAR SPIRIT (GB) - (G Avranche): Got its head up when over-racing in the early stages. Held up for clear running near the 700 metres. General: Jockey A Al Siyabi (WHITEY O' GWAUN (IRE)) was fined AED 1000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(vii) for hitting his mount continuously without giving it a chance to respond. Jockey T O’Shea (NAJM SUHAIL (GB)) was suspended for 1 race meeting (26.1.2017 Meydan) under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 14 occasions. In assessing penalty stewards took into account that this was T O’Shea’s fifth breach of this rule this season.

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes due to the incident with AF KHAFAJEH (AE). MARBOUH (GB) - (G Buckell): Commenced awkwardly and refused to race in the early stages. Passing the 400 metres lay out and raced wide for the remainder. Trainer Mr H Al Alawi was notified that prior to the gelding being entered to race again it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. AF MUKHIFAH (AE) - (B Reis): Commenced awkwardly, shifted in and bumped another runner. AF MAHER (AE) - (A Fresu): Bumped by another runner at the start. Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres. AF KHAFAJEH (AE) - (F Jara): Dislodged its rider behind the barrier and galloped for some distance before being recaptured. Acting on veterinary advice that the mare was unsuitable to race AF KHAFAJEH (AE) was withdrawn at 7:00 pm. AF MEEQAT (AE) - (C Hayes): Rider reported that the colt raced ungenerously throughout. Near the 250 metres had to be steadied.
