Steadied approaching the 1300 metres when momentarily tightened for room. When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, the rider explained that after not jumping well, BRABBHAM (USA) was unable to obtain a forward position and resented the kickback throughout the race. He added that the horse is better suited to racing at Jebel Ali. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. WINSLOW (USA) - (P Dobbs): Bumped on jumping and was tightened for room. GROOR (GB) - (A de Vries): Slow to begin. Was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn. ORMINDO (USA) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin. Travelled wide without cover throughout.

SHAISHEE (USA) - (D O'Neill): Commenced awkwardly. MUARRAB (GB) - (J Crowley): When questioned regarding the tactics on the gelding, the rider explained that he was instructed not to lead and take a position just off the leader, the same way MUARRAB (GB) was ridden when winning the 2016 Golden Shaheen and to allow another runner to give him a run into the straight. J Crowley explained that MUARRAB (GB) travelled well throughout, although racing three wide without cover, the gelding improved to the lead rounding the home turn earlier than he would have liked. He added that MUARRAB (GB) ran on fairly in the straight, however didn’t run on as well as he had anticipated.

RIO TIGRE (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Commenced awkwardly and threw its head. BEACH BAR (IRE) - (S Hitchcott): When questioned regarding the tactics on the gelding, the rider explained that he was instructed to allow BEACH BAR (IRE) to stride forward if comfortable. He added that he did not feel BEACH BAR (IRE) was racing too quickly in the early and middle stages however, approaching the 1000 metres the gelding commenced to weakening and did not run out the trip. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for CARBON DATING (IRE)(T O’Shea) having to be steadied when tightened for room approaching the 300 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that approaching the 300 metres ZAMAAM (GB)(J Crowley) shifted in slightly at the same time that RED GALILEO (GB)(C Soumillon), shifted out when laying out under pressure, resulting in CARBON DATING (IRE) being tightened for room and having to be steadied. Stewards advised all riders to exercise more care in a similar situation.

Held up for a clear run rounding the home turn until passing the 400 metres. GOLD CITY (IRE) - (R Mullen): Slow to begin and was then tightened for room shortly after. LINDO AMOR (ARG) - (C Soumillon): Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner. Raced wide without cover throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of the colt, the rider explained that LINDO AMOR (ARG) travelled well in the early and middle stages, however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He further added that the colt failed to stay the trip. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. STORM BELT (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Slow to begin and bumped another runner. Raced wide without cover throughout. LE BERNARDIN (USA) - (T O'Shea): When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, the rider explained that after drawing gate nine (9) and not beginning well, he was obliged to race further back than anticipated and this was detrimental to LE BERNARDIN’s overall chances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a laceration to its right foreleg. General: Jockey P Cosgrave (POWER BLADE (KOR)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(i) for hitting his mount in front of the saddle whilst holding the whip in his forehand.

BELGIAN BILL (GB) - (P Cosgrave): Bumped on jumping. On straightening was bumped by another runner on several occasions. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for EPSOM ICON (GB)(P Smullen) having to be steadied approaching the 300 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that approaching the 300 metres EPSOM ICON (GB), which was weakening had to be steadied when tightened for room between OASIS FANTASY (IRE)(J Spencer), which shifted in marginally when under pressure and SALTARIN DUBAI (ARG)(B Fayd’Herbe), which shifted out. All riders were advised to exercise more care in a similar situation. Jockey A Atzeni (DYLAN MOUTH (IRE)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 13 occasions. Stewards took into account that this was A Atzeni’s first breach of this rule for the season.

Jockey D O’Neill (FITYAAN (GB)) was fined AED 1000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 15 occasions.
