SHAH JAHAN DE RODAIM (AE) - (P Cosgrave): Slow to begin. Near the 1000 metres had to be steadied off heels. HAWAFEZ (AE) - (G Avranche): Passing the 300 metres was bumped by another runner. AF LAOWAHAH (AE) - (R Mullen): Commenced to lay out from the 400 metres. SALLAL AL REEF (AE) - (F Jara): Slow to begin. AL YAMAMAH MLEEH (AE) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the filly which had tailed the field for the majority of the race, the rider explained that having its first start today AL YAMAMAH MLEEH (AE) raced greenly throughout and could not muster early speed. Passing the winning post, the rider suffered a harmless fall when the filly shied at the winning post. ES ALIA (AE) - (C Beasley): Passing the 400 metres, shifted out abruptly. FADIA AL REEF (AE) - (J Rosales): Lay out in the early and middles stages. Near the 1000 metres, had to be steadied off heels. General: Subsequent to declarations on Tuesday 21 November 2017, an amendment to the placings in the Maiden 1400 metres at Al Ain racecourse on Saturday 18 March 2017, promoted AL HUDA (AE) (originally second place getter) to being declared the winner. Under the conditions of today’s race where winners of 1 race since 30 November 2016 incur a 2.5kg penalty, acting under the provisions of ERA Rule 18(v), AL HUDA (AE) was issued with a 2.5kg penalty for that win, in today’s race.

DASSAN DA (BE) - (P Cosgrave): Slow to begin. EIZ AL REEF (AE) - (F Jara): Raced wide without cover throughout. ES NAHAWAND (AE) - (D O'Neill): Tightened for room and hampered near the 200 metres. Near the 100 metres was eased off heels of another runner when tightened for room. FAHADD (FR) - (R Mullen): Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the straight. Shifted in near the 200 metres hampering another runner before shifting out abruptly under pressure, taking other runners further off their course. Approaching the 100 metres again shifted in abruptly taking another runner in off its course. When Stewards queried the rider in regards to the racing manners of FAHADD (FR), particularly in the straight, R Mullen stated that the trainer had advised that the horse has shown a tendency in training to be wayward, however he was of the opinion that tonight’s racing manners could not be solely attributed to the horse’s racing manners as it also seemed to resent the use of the whip. Trainer Mr A Al Mehairbi further stated that the horse was having its first start for the season and thought that running under the lights at tonight’s meeting may also have distracted FAHADD (FR). Taking into account the evidence of trainer and jockey, Stewards notified Mr A Al Mehairbi that a Warning would be placed against FAHADD (FR) and a repetition of tonight’s racing manners may see further action being taken. IKRAM (AE) - (A Al Siyabi): Knuckled at the start. NEGMAH (OM) - (P Dobbs): Near the 100 metres, taken in by another runner and hampered. RB BURNING ASH (US) - (T O'Shea): Hampered by another runner near the 200 metres. AF TEBYAN (AE) - (I Poullis): Commenced awkwardly. BROOKLIN JET D'AZRAK (FR) - (R Ffrench): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. SALMEEN (US) - (H Bentley): Near the 200 metres, shifted out away from another runner. BOSS DES VIALETTES (FR) - (C Beasley): Leaving the mounting yard bumped the fence heavily. A pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers passed the horse suitable to race. ES ALMAS (AE) - (S Hitchcott): Slow to begin. MH KANZ (AE) – (J Santiago): Acting on a telephone call from Ms E Jeanne, the trainer of the mare, that MH KANZ (AE) had injured its right hip whilst being loaded into the truck to be transported to the races, Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of the mare at 1.29pm. Ms E Jeanne, was advised that prior to MH KANZ (AE) being entered to race again, she must provide a certificate of fitness for the mare.

WATHIQ (FR) - (G Avranche): Approaching the 400 metres, abruptly shifted out off heels hampering another runner. ANAQ W'RSAN (AE) - (G Buckell): After arriving on course, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. Tightened for room near the 700 metres then commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild lameness to the right hind leg. ENJAZ MUSCAT (OM) - (P Dobbs): Approaching the 700 metres shifted out to avoid a weakening runner and in doing so hampered another runner. GOSHAWKE (US) - (F Jara): Slow to begin. Approaching home turn 400 metres, checked off heels and taken out of its course by another runner. AF ALNAWAH (FR) - (R Mullen): Commenced awkwardly. BAARIZ (AE) - (T O'Shea): Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 700 metres, shifted in and hampered another runner. INJAZZ (FR) - (A Al Siyabi): Slow to begin. Near the 700 metres, bumped by a weakening runner. REGGANE DU CAYROU (FR) - (P Sirigu): Slow to begin. SUNDUS W'RSAN (AE) - (S Davis): Slow to begin. TARFAH (FR) - (X Ziani): Approaching the 400 metres bumped by another runner and became unbalanced. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for TARFAH (FR)(X Ziani) being bumped and GOSHAWKE (US)(F Jara) being checked approaching the 400m. Rider G Avranche (WATHIQ (FR)) stated that when following AF ALNAWAH (FR)(R Mullen) approaching the 400m that filly commenced to weaken, resulting in him having to shift outwards to avoid heels, severely bumping TARFAH (FR), causing that filly to become unbalanced, and for GOSHAWKE (US) which was racing to the outside of TARFAH (FR), having to check, be taken wider and lose ground. G Avranche added that his mount was a four year old having it’s first race start and he had not intended on shifting out as far or wide as he did, however his mount’s inexperience contributed to the severity of the shift. In taking into account the evidence Stewards did not take direct action against G Avranche, however advised him that in future he is to do his utmost to avoid interfering with his fellow riders in similar circumstances, when shifting ground.

AMOLAHEN EL ALHAN (AE) - (T O'Shea): Approaching the 1200 metres was restrained off heels of another runner when tightened for room. AF AL ALMAA (AE) - (I Poullis): Slow to begin. Shifted in and bumped another runner near the 1200 metres. AF AL JAHED (AE) - (A Fresu): Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner. SILK STOCKINGS (US) - (S Hitchcott): Bumped on jumping and then lost ground. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for MOLAHEN EL ALHAN (AE)(T O’Shea) having to be restrained off heels approaching the 1200 metres. It was established that AF AL ALMAA (AE)(I Poullis) shifted in and bumped MOLAHEN EL ALHAN (AE) onto the heels of DA’AREEN (FR)(R Mullen), which had shifted out away from DHAMIN (AE)(X Ziani). Taking into account evidence that there was shifting from both sides of MOLAHEN EL ALHAN (AE) as well as the Steward’s belief that the gelding was not yet settled in it’s run, Stewards reprimanded I Poullis (AF AL ALMAA (AE)) for careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that his shift inwards from a wide position to the point that his mount made contact with MOLAHEN EL ALHAN (AE) in this incident caused them concern, and advised him that a repeat of this type of riding may see him face further disciplinary action by the Stewards.
