General: Stewards inquired into the reason for SHAREEF KB (FR) being checked near the 100m. It was established that ETOILE DE CARRERE (FR) (S de Sousa), which had been racing ungenerously, shifting ground both in and out prior to this incident, shifted in approaching the 100 metres, bumped JAAHIZ (FR) inwards, resulting in NIZORA (FR) having to ease off that colt’s heels and in doing so obliged SHAREEF KB (FR) had to check off NIZORA (FR)’s heels. As Stewards were satisfied that rider S de Sousa had attempted to correct his mount as soon as it began to shift ground inwards, Stewards were satisfied that he took the appropriate action expected of a rider in these circumstances and took no action other to advise riders to take care in similar circumstances in future.

Passing the winning post on first occasion, raced in restricted room. General: Stewards acceded to a request to replace apprentice Liam Tarentaal as rider of LEGEND’S GATE (IRE), as he was not in a position to claim his full allowance as promised by his rider agent. As no apprentice was available, J Rosales was approved to ride. Jockey F Jara (MUSTAHDAF (USA)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that near the 300 metres he directed his mount out to obtain clear running, bumping severely with IJMAALY (IRE)(T O’Shea) which became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped MR KHALID (GB)(R Mullen) which was hampered and had to check off heels of another runner, before then shifting out further and bumping EMPOLI (GER)(S Hitchcott) which was tightened for room and taken out further, bumping SNOW SQUALL (GB)(C Beasley) who was checked as a result. F Jara had his license to ride in races suspended for 3 race meetings (Jebel Ali 29.12.17, Meydan 04.01.18 and Al Ain 05.01.18). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account F Jara’s good riding record, his guilty plea and that they deemed the interference to be in the high range.
