ENERY (IRE) - (F Jara): Bumped on jumping and then shortly after was tightened for room and had to be steadied. DAWWASS (USA) - (R Mullen): When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the rider advised that DAWWASS (USA) is not suited to racing on the dirt surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right fore-leg. Trainer Mr S Seemar was advised that prior to the gelding being entered to race again, he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for DAWWASS (USA). TRAVIS COUNTY (USA) - (A de Vries): Shortly after the start was tightened for room and had to be restrained. GRAND DAUPHIN (USA) - (S Al Mazrooei): Taken inwards by another runner shortly after the start. Checked off heels near 1900 metres when tightened for room. IMMORTALISED (GB) - (P Cosgrave): Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner. Raced wide without cover during the middle stages. BUSKER (USA) - (A McLean): Slow to begin. HAWKER (GB) - (D O’Neill): Bumped on jumping. WHEAT SHEAF (GB) - (B Pinheiro): Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner. PRESS ROOM (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Slow to begin. CROSS STEP (USA) - (E Chaves): Stumbled on jumping and lost ground. General: Stewards inquired into an incident shortly after the start where ENERY (IRE)(F Jara) and TRAVIS COUNTY (USA)(A de Vries) were both tightened for room and lost ground. On the evidence and available footage it was established that shortly after the start TAILOR’S ROW (USA)(X Ziani) shifted in when not sufficiently clear of GRAND DAUPHIN (USA)(S Al Mazrooei), taking that colt inwards and in turn tightening the running of TRAVIS COUNTY (USA), resulting in that gelding being steadied by its rider and taken in onto ENERY (IRE) which was tightened and also had to be steadied. Jockey X Ziani was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey X Ziani (TAILOR’S ROW (USA)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), for allowing his mount to shift in during the early stages, resulting in GRAND DAUPHIN (USA) being taken in and then having to be checked off that colt’s heels near the 1900 metres. X Ziani had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 2 race-meetings (Meydan 31.03.17 and Jimna Lake 07.04.18). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Z Ziani’s guilty plea, good careless riding record and deemed the carelessness to be in the mid-range. Further, Apprentice S Al Mazrouei (GRAND DAUPHIN (USA)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 11(e) for providing evidence during this enquiry that in the opinion of the Stewards was misleading. Stewards inquired into an incident passing the winning post on the first occasion where IMMORTALISED (GB)(P Cosgrave) was tightened for room between QUARTIER FRANCAIS (USA)(P Sirigu) and TRAVIS COUNTY (USA)(A de Vries). On the evidence it was established that QUARTIER FRANCAIS (USA) continued to run on in a straight line as IMMORTALISED (GB) and TRAVIS COUNTY (USA) had commenced to make the turn. As a result IMMORTALISED (GB) was tightened for room and had to be restrained. As Stewards were satisfied that no rider was at fault, no action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in a similar situation.
