Was severely inconvenienced when avoiding the fallen rider near the 500 metres. When questioned about the performance of the colt, the rider explained that COZMO STAR (IRE) raced flat throughout and in his opinion would be better suited over a further distance and on turf. HUCKLEBUCK (USA) - (C Beasley): Began awkwardly. RAVEN'S BACK (IRE) - (F Veron): Shortly after the start was tightened for room. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for Jockey R Whelan (GERVAIS (USA)) being dislodged near the 500 metres. Initial evidence was taken from Jockeys T O’Shea (BEACHCOMBER BAY (IRE)) and A Fresu (MULTICURRENCY (USA)). The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed. As R Whelan was transported to the hospital for further assessment.

ACTIVE SPIRIT (IRE) - (R Mullen): On return to scale, the rider advised that the gelding gave ground quickly rounding the home turn and for this reason he eased ACTIVE SPIRIT (IRE) out of the race as he believed it had bled. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr D Watson advised that the gelding pulled up well the following morning. GALLES (USA) - (X Ziani): Slow to begin and lost ground. INTERCONNECTION (GB) - (T O'Shea): On return to scale the rider advised that after racing in a forward position the gelding became tired over the concluding stages. DEHBASHI (USA) - (D O'Neill): Reared on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress and was treated accordingly.
