On the 1st November, Stewards inquired into the reason for Jockey R Whelan (GERVAIS (USA)) being dislodged near the 500 metres. On the day initial evidence was taken from Jockeys T O’Shea (BEACHCOMBER BAY (IRE)) and A Fresu (MULTICURRENCY (USA)). The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed. On the 22nd November 2018, Stewards reconvened the inquiry enabling them to questions R Whelan, who was not present in the initial inquiry. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 500 metres GERVAIS (USA) became unbalanced when racing close to the heels of BEACHCOMBER BAY (IRE) and dislodged R Whelan. Stewards noted the evidence of R Whelan that approaching the 500 metres GERVAIS (USA) had commenced to give ground and shifted out slightly whilst under pressure, which contributed to the gelding becoming unbalanced and racing onto the heels of BEACHCOMBER BAY (IRE). As a result no action was taken against any rider other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in a similar situation. MAWAHIB (FR) - (F Veron): Commenced awkwardly and bumped another runner. AF SANAD (AE) - (B Pinheiro): Shifted in on jumping and bumped another runner. Lay out under pressure in the straight. AF MARRAH (AE) - (A Fresu): Bumped another runner shortly after the start. MIRNA (FR) - (R Mullen): Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped another runner. ALJAZI (FR) - (F Jara): Commenced awkwardly and bumped another runner. Got its head up when over-racing near the 1100 metres. RB TORCH (US) - (P Cosgrave): Near the 1200 metres restrained when tightened for room. On return to scale the rider could offer no explanation regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RB MADYMOISELLE (US) - (C Hayes): Slow to begin. Travelled wide without cover in the middle stages. ES AJEEB (AE) - (S Hitchcott): Travelled wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Lay out rounding the turn.

HUCKLEBUCK (USA) - (A Fresu): Raced wide without cover throughout. EL NEFOUS (IRE) - (A de Vries): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. ALLA MAHLAK (USA) - (B Pinheiro): Began awkwardly. LIBNAN (USA) - (T O'Shea): Commenced awkwardly and lost considerable ground (6 lengths). General: Jockey B Pinheiro (ALLA MAHLAK (USA)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(vii) for using his whip in consecutive strides. Stewards took into account that this was B Pinheiro’s first breach of this Rule for the season. Jockey J Ferrer (ISKANDARANI (USA)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(i) for hitting his mount in front of the saddle whilst holding the whip in the forehand, in that he used it on 3 occasions. Stewards took into account that this was J Ferrer’s first breach of this Rule for the season.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, which was a last start winner, the rider reported that in the early stages his mount did not appreciate being bumped by another runner and may not have backed up from his last run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities, however an endoscopic examination revealed a degree of EIPH which may have affected its performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a catastrophic injury to its left fore-leg and was humanely euthanized. MUHTARAM (GB) - (B Curtis): Bumped another runner over the concluding stages. TOBACO (ARG) - (S Hitchcott): Shifted in abruptly near the 600 metres to avoid the weakening, injured runner. CACHAO (GB) - (T O'Shea): Slow to begin. ARCHAIC (IRE) - (D O'Neill): Near the 700 metres shifted out abruptly to avoid the weakening, injured runner. DIRECT MESSAGE (USA) - (O Doleuze): Slow to begin. BOIS DE BOULOGNE (USA) - (R Ffrench): Shifted out on jumping, bumped another runner and lost ground. On return to scale the rider reported that the colt was coughing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities, however an endoscopic examination revealed a degree of EIPH which may have affected its performance. MUJEEB (GB) - (A Fresu): Bumped on jumping. SHEEBA (GB) - (S Hitchcott): On return to scale the rider could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. PHILOSOPHER (IRE) - (P Cosgrave): Shifted out on jumping and lost ground. Travelled wide without cover in the early part of the race. MUSTAHDAF (USA) - (D O'Neill): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. On return to scale the rider could offer no explanation other than after being slow to begin the gelding had a tendency to lay in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right foreleg. Trainer Mr M Al Mheiri was advised that prior to the gelding being entered to race again, he must provide a certificate of fitness for MUSTAHDAF (USA). GUNDOGDU (USA) - (X Ziani): Travelled wide without cover in the early stages. LOYAL SOLDIER (USA) - (F Veron): Slow to begin.
