Stewards' Reports for Azizi Mina
KEY VICTORY (IRE) - (J Doyle): Slow to begin. Near the 1500 metres was tightened for room and as a result was bumped heavily, becoming unbalanced. SUYOOF (AUS) - (D O'Neill): Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Acting under the provisions of ERA Rule 21B(a)&(e), Trainer Mr M de Kock was notified that the gelding would not be permitted to exercise, train or race for a period of 21 days, and following must complete a satisfactory gallop in the presence of the ERA Stewards or Veterinary officer. FIRE AWAY (USA) - (O Doleuze): Near the 1500 metres had to be checked to avoid the heels of another runner and then commenced to over-race. FLY AT DAWN (USA) - (C O'Donoghue): Held up for clear running from the 500 metres until approaching the 300 metres. BEDOUIN'S STORY (GB) - (T O'Shea): Stood flat-footed missing the start (4 lengths). Checked when disappointed for clear running approaching the 100 metres. DESERT FIRE (IRE) - (C Hayes): Commenced awkwardly and shifted outwards. Raced wide without cover throughout. RACE DAY (IRE) - (R Scott): Had a tendency to lay out under pressure in the straight. STRATTON STREET (USA) - (R Mullen): Commenced awkwardly. Raced keen in the early stages. General: Trainer Mr R Bouresly (MUSADDAS (GB)) was fined AED 2000 under the provision of ERA Rule 60(i) for withdrawing the gelding from the race without an acceptable reason. Correct weight was delayed after the connections of the third place-getter, BEDOUIN’S STORY (GB)(T O’Shea) did not wish to object regarding interference near the 100 metres. Stewards viewed the patrol footage and bearing in mind the 1 length margin to the second placed horse RACE DAY (IRE)(R Scott), Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that if the interference to BEDOUIN’S STORY (GB) had not occurred, that the gelding would have finished in front of RACE DAY (IRE). Correct weight was subsequently declared. Stewards inquired into the reason for FIRE AWAY (USA)(O Doleuze) being checked near the 1500 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1500 metres FIRE AWAY (USA) had to be checked to avoid the heels of MURAAQEB (AUS)(J Crowley), which had shifted in. KEY VICTORY (IRE)(J Doyle), which was racing to the inside of FIRE AWAY (USA) was heavily bumped and became unbalanced as a result. Stewards noted that J Crowley was unable to relieve the pressure to FIRE AWAY (USA) due to racing to the inside of FLY AT DAWN (USA)(C O’Donoghue), which had commenced to shift ground inwards when the pace of the race slackened. Further, it was evident that J Crowley, who had commenced from a wider barrier than FLY AT DAWN (USA), had improved into a tight position to the inside of FLY AT DAWN (USA), placing himself in unnecessarily restricted room. Accordingly both J Crowley and C O'Donoghue were reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), for careless riding and advised that they must ensure they leave sufficient galloping room for runners to their inside when shifting ground. Apprentice R Scott RACE DAY (IRE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the careless riding being that approaching the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of BEDOUIN'S STORY (GB)(T O'Shea), which had to be checked when tightened for room between RACE DAY (IRE) and DESERT FIRE (IRE)(C Hayes). Apprentice R Scott had his license to ride in races suspended for two race meetings (Abu Dhabi 27.01.2019 and Meydan 31.01.2019). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account R Scott’s guilty plea, good careless riding record and deemed the carelessness to be in the low range.
