SPEEDY MOVE (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Shortly after the start eased when racing in restricted room between runners. Approaching the 350 metres bumped by another runner. General: Jockey G Avranche (BRAVE HERO (GB)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars of the charge being that approaching the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of G K CHESTERTON (IRE)(S Hitchcott), which was checked when tightened for room. Jockey G Avranche’s license to ride in races was suspended for 2 race meetings (Meydan 31.01.19 and Al Ain 1.02.19). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account G Avranche’s guilty plea and good careless riding record.

Near the 2000 metres eased when over-racing and placed close to the heels of another runner. Raced wide without cover from the 1600 metres. TOWN'S HISTORY (USA) - (R Scott): Near the 1900 metres had to be steadied off the heels of another runner. GAVROCHE (USA) - (B Curtis): Commenced awkwardly shifted out and bumped another runner. Near the 2000 metres when racing ungenerously, had to be steadied off the heels of another runner, in doing so shifted out and bumped another runner. RUA AUGUSTA (USA) - (A Fresu): Near the 200 metres shifted in when laying in bumping another runner and dipping. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for Apprentice R Scott (TOWN’S HISTORY (USA)) having to be restrain and lose ground near the 2000 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was the Steward’s opinion that DOUBLET (IRE)(M Barzalona) may have shifted in when not sufficiently clear of TOWN’S HISTORY (USA), resulting in that gelding having to be checked by it’s rider. Due to the unavailability of suitable video footage and evidence from Apprentice R Scott, that his mount was merely over-racing and being restrained in attempt to obtain cover, Steward’s issued a reprimand to M Barzalona for careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) and reminded him of his responsibility to be clear when shifting ground in future.
