SAUTERNES AL MAURY (FR) - (D O'Neill): Commenced awkwardly shifted out abruptly and bumped another runner. Bumped with another runner near the 2000 metres. Hung right throughout. ABHAAR (AE) - (O Doleuze): Bumped heavily on jumping before being checked and as a result lost ground. Near the 2000 metres had to be checked severely to avoid the heels of another runner. AF AL SAJANJLE (AE) - (T O'Shea): Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 1700 metres, when over-racing, had to be steadied off the heels of another runner. NAJM ALEMARAT (FR) - (B Curtis): Scrambled on jumping. Bumped with another runner near the 400 metres. Near the 1700 metres had to be eased when racing in restricted room. CHEIK ROQUE (FR) - (F Veron): Slow to begin. RB MADYMOISELLE (US) - (S Hitchcott): Slow to begin. AL ZAHIR (FR) - (J Crowley): Commenced awkwardly losing ground. Raced wide without cover throughout. On return to scale the rider reported that the horse failed to respond to pressure in the straight. MAWAHIB (FR) - (P Cosgrave): Bumped with another runner near the 100 metres. BF MUGHADER (OM) - (A Fresu): Slow to begin. Lost its left-fore shoe in running. GOSHAWKE (US) - (F Jara): Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped with another runner near the 100 metres. General: Jockey B Curtis (NAJM ALEMARAT (FR)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that near the 2000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ABHAAR (AE)(O Doleuze), which had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of NAJM ALEMARAT (FR). B Curtis had his license to ride in races suspended for two race meetings (Abu Dhabi 10.2.2019 and Meydan 14.2.2019). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account B Curtis’s good careless riding record and guilty plea. Stewards inquired into the reason for AF AL SAJANJLE (AE)(T O'Shea) being steadied passing the winning post on the first occasion. On the evidence and available footage it was established that AF AL SAJANJLE (AE), which was over-racing, was steadied off the heels of SAUTERNES AL MAURY (FR)(D O'Neill), which had shifted in when not fully clear. In taking into account the racing manners of AF AL SAJANJLE (AE) and the nature of the shift, Stewards issued D O’Neill with a reprimand under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding. Jockey P Cosgrave (MAWAHIB (FR)) was fined AED 1000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 14 occasions. In determining penalty Stewards took into account that this was P Cosgrave’s second breach of this Rule this season.

STARRY EYES (USA) - (P Cosgrave): Near the 1200 metres steadied and became unbalanced when racing in restricted room between runners. SILVA (IRE) - (O Murphy): Commenced awkwardly shifting out and bumping another runner. LOVER'S KNOT (GB) - (J Doyle): Bumped on jumping by another runner. Near the 600 metres when commencing to give ground had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between runners. When queried regarding the disappointing performance of the filly, the rider reported that when placed under pressure his mount failed to respond to his riding then when crowded for room shortly after, gave ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. EMMA POINT (USA) - (A Fresu): Shortly after the start bumped by another runner. DIVINE IMAGE (USA) - (W Buick): Reared on jumping losing ground. HABAH (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Commenced awkwardly. MUTHHILA (IRE) - (R Ffrench): Raced wide without cover throughout. FOGGY FLIGHT (USA) - (X Ziani): Slow to begin. SWIFT ROSE (IRE) - (K Stott): Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. AL HAYETTE (USA) - (F Veron): On return to scale the rider could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, other than the filly may have resented the kick back of the dirt surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for STARRY EYES (USA)(P Cosgrave) being steadied and losing ground near the 1200 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1200 metres STARRY EYES (USA) was carried in towards LOVER'S KNOT (GB)(J Doyle) by EMMA POINT (USA)(A Fresu), which at this point had shifted in marginally resulting in STARRY EYES (USA) becoming unbalanced and steading when placed in restricted room between those runners. As Stewards did not believe the incident could be attributed any one rider all riders involved were advised to exercise more care in a similar situation.

SPORTING CHANCE (GB) - (P Cosgrave): Commenced awkwardly. AL FAJIR MUKBILE (IRE) - (F Veron): Near the 450 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner before shifting out to obtain clear running. BURJ (GB) - (K Stott): Near the 1200 metres bumped and had to be steadied. GOLDEN JAGUAR (USA) - (C Beasley): Slow to begin. IRISH TRILOGY (IRE) - (C Lopez): On jumping bumped by another runner. NAYSLAYER (IRE) - (A de Vries): Bumped on jumping. Near the 1200 metres bumped and taken in by another runner. Near the 1100 metres had to be eased when racing in restricted room to the inside of another runner, as a result of this lost ground. PRINCE ELZAAM (IRE) - (O Murphy): Eased off the heels of another runner near the 200 metres. SHANAGHAI CITY (USA) - (J Rosales): Bumped on jumping. SHINING ARMOR (GB) - (D Keenan): Raced wide without cover throughout. TABARAK (USA) - (B Curtis): Shifted out on jumping. Near the 1100 metres shifted out abruptly when racing greenly and bumped another runner. Lost its left fore-plate during the race. TROLIUS (IRE) - (C Hayes): Buffeted between runners on jumping. On pulling up after the race the rider suffered a harmless fall. WOVEN (GB) - (J Crowley): Carried out on jumping by another runner before being bumped heavily. Shortly after the start was checked when buffeted between runners. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the colt, the rider explained that his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure. NASHIRAH (GB) - (B Doyle): Over-raced in the early stages. General: Jockey C Lopez (IRISH TRILOGY (IRE) was examined by the Club’s Doctor prior to weighing out and deemed fit to fulfil his engagement. Stewards inquired into the reason for TABARAK (USA)(B Curtis) being tightened and shifting in near the 1200 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1200 metres TABARAK (USA), which was racing greenly, was tightened for room by MAGIC IMAGE (GB)(H Turner) which shifted in before TABARAK (USA) then shifted in and away from MAGIC IMAGE (GB) abruptly. As a result of this shift, TABARAK (USA) bumped with BURJ (GB)(K Stott) resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced and having to be steadied. In taking into account the racing manners of TABARAK (USA) and the nature of the shift, Jockey H Turner (MAGIC IMAGE (GB)) was issued with a reprimand under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding. Stewards queried jockey Adrie De Vries in relation to the tactics adopted on NAYSLAYER (IRE) and in particular losing ground near the 1100 metres. A De Vries reported that after not being given specific instructions by the trainer, it was his intention to settle in a midfield position. He stated that after being hampered at the start he was able to improve to a position slightly worse than midfield on the rail in the early stages before TABARAK (USA), which was shifting ground when racing greenly, shifted in and crowded his running near the 1100 metres. At this point he elected to restrain NAYSLAYER (IRE) rather than risk being hampered again, and in doing so the gelding weakened further back than he had intended, to the rear of the field passing the 1000 metres. A De Vries added that from this point until entering the straight NAYSLAYER (IRE) failed to respond to his riding, however on straightening he elected to shift to the outside of the field, rather than ride for luck inside other horses. At this point he placed the gelding under pressure and it responded by improving around the field and finishing on strongly. Steward’s noted A De Vries’s comments.
