AF AL MONTAQEM (AE) - (B Pinheiro): Near the 500 metres dipped. Approaching the 400 metres shifted out and bumped another runner. AF MANZOUMA (FR) - (T O'Shea): Leaving the straight on the first occasion had to be checked and lost its position in running. AFRAA (FR) - (C Beasley): Leaving the straight on the first occasion bumped by another runner when racing in restricted room. Approaching the 400 metres bumped by another runner. ALMAZIN (OM) - (S Mazur): Commenced awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before being steadied near the 350 metres when unable to improve inside another runner. Approaching the 150 metres had to be steadied and shift out across the heels of another runner to obtain clear running. CITY TURBINE (AE) - (A Madrid): Raced greenly under pressure in the straight. DAANA (FR) - (S Hitchcott): Hampered by another runner leaving the straight on the first occasion. EXPO (AE) - (F Jara): Raced wide without cover throughout. JERNAZ (AE) - (P Cosgrave): Commenced awkwardly. KASEB (FR) - (P Convertino): Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the right fetlock. Trainer Mr H Al Alawi was advised that prior to the horse being entered to race again, he must complete a suitability examination of KASEB (FR) conducted by an ERA Veterinarian. KING DE GHAZAL (FR) - (B Curtis): Leaving the straight on the first occasion was carried in and had to be steadied off the heels of another runner. MA'AALY (AE) - (R Mullen): Over-raced in the early stages. MAKE ME RICH CS (US) - (R Ffrench): Hampered by another runner leaving the straight on the first occasion. MERLOT AL MAURY (FR) - (F Veron): Hung left rounding the home turn. RASI AL KHALEDIAH II (SA) - (A Fresu): Leaving the straight on the first occasion had to be checked when tightened for room between runners. TARFAH (FR) - (S Al Mazrooei): Fractious in the barrier prior to the start. General: Apprentice S Al Mazrooei (TARFAH (FR)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that leaving the straight on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of KING DE GHAZAL (FR)(B Curtis), taking that colt inwards and tightening the running of RASI AL KHALEDIAH II (SA)(A Fresu), which had to be checked when racing in restricted room between KING DE GHAZAL (FR) and AFRAA (FR)(C Beasley). As a result of this interference, AFRAA (FR) was forced inwards resulting in AF MANZOUMA (FR)(T O'Shea) having to be checked and lose ground. Apprentice S Al Mazrooei’s license to ride in races was suspended for 2 race meetings (Meydan 3.1.18 and Al Ain 4.1.18). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account S Al Mazrooei’s guilty plea and good careless riding record. Stewards inquired into the reason for Jockey S Mazur (ALMAZIN (OM)) persisting with a run to the inside of SEAFE (QA)(E Chaves) from the 400 metres until approaching the 150 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that approaching the 350 metres S Mazur attempted to improve into a run to the inside of SEAFE (QA), before having to be steadied off that colt’s heels due to insufficient running room. Then approaching the 150 metres ALMAZIN (OM) again had to be steadied and shift out across the heels of SEAFE (QA) when tightened and to obtain clear running. S Mazur explained that he persisted with a run to the inside of SEAFE (QA) as he felt that runners to the outside of that colt would prevent his mount from improving further into the race. Stewards notified S Mazur that in their opinion he had erred in his judgement for persisting to attempt a run to the inside of SEAFE (QA) from the 400 metres after initially being denied clear running at this point, as there was insufficient room to do so and his neglect in attempting options to the outside of SEAFE (QA) could open questions as to his unwillingness to explore options to improve his mount’s chances in the race. Stewards reprimanded Jockey S Mazur under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding, in that he had to restrain his mount near the 350 metres and again the 150 metres when attempting to force a run when there was insufficient room to do so.

JAP AL AFREET (AE) - (B Doyle): Approaching the 200 metres when hanging left shifted out abruptly. KAWTHAR AL REEF (AE) - (F Jara): Had a tendency to lay left throughout the race. General: Stewards inquired into the reason of RABIH W’RSAN (AE)(B Curtis) having to be checked and losing ground passing the 400 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that AF MOWARAD (AE)(A Fresu) shifted out marginally before being corrected, taking RABIH W’RSAN (AE) out across the heels of ZAHRET AL MARAS (AE) (S Mazur) which, in the Steward’s opinion, may have shifted in slightly, resulting in RABIH W’RSAN checking off that filly’s heels. As Stewards were not able to establish to a reasonable degree of satisfaction, due to a lack of available video footage if any rider was at fault, they took no direct action other than to remind all riders to exercise care when shifting ground in future.
