MEKONG (GB) - (J Crowley): When mounted in the parade ring the gelding became fractious, kicked out behind and contacted the railing, with its rider becoming unseated. On arrival at the barrier underwent a veterinary examination and passed suitable to race. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Held up for a clear run in the early part of the straight. He added that SECRET ADVISOR (FR) had been working well since arriving in Dubai and appreciated being ridden with cover throughout the race. DEE EX BEE (GB) - (M Barzalona): Lay out under pressure over the final 200 metres. On return to scale the rider advised that the horse would take benefit from its first run of the season. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. WAIT FOREVER (IRE) - (A Fresu): Raced wide without cover throughout. CHAMPIONSHIP (IRE) - (C Beasley): Leaving the 1500 metres the gelding broke down, dislodging its rider. Due to suffering from a catastrophic breakdown to its left shoulder area, the gelding was humanely euthanized. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on CHAMPIONSHIP (IRE). FIRMAMENT (GB) - (D Tudhope): Was severely checked near the 1400 metres when tightened for room. LYNDON B (IRE) - (J Doyle): Slow to begin. Approaching the 1400 metres the saddle slipped forwards, proving difficult for its rider to ride in his normal manner for the remainder of the race. Due to the saddle slipping, the gelding commenced to over-race and had to be restrained from the heels of several other runners throughout the race. LYNDON B (IRE) was eventually eased down in the straight. OCEAN FURY (USA) - (P Cosgrave): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. FREESCAPE (GB) - (R Mullen): Slow to begin. GOOD FORTUNE (GB) - (W Buick): Lay in over the final 200 metres. MOQTARREB (GB) - (J Crowley): Restrained off heels near the 1500 metres. Eased off heels near the 1400 metres. General: Jockey R Whelan (SURROUNDING (IRE)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that near the 1500 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MOQTARREB (GB)(J Crowley), resulting in that gelding having to be restrained. Jockey R Whelan had his license to ride in races suspended for three race meetings (Abu Dhabi 09.02.2020, Meydan 13.02.2020 and Al Ain 14.02.2020). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account R Whelan‘s good careless riding record, guilty plea and deemed the carelessness to be in the low-range. Further, R Whelan (SURROUNDING (IRE)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that near the 1400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of FIRMAMENT (GB)(D Tudhope), resulting in that gelding having to be severely checked. Jockey R Whelan had his license to ride in races suspended for four race meetings (Abu Dhabi 09.02.2020, Meydan 13.02.2020, Al Ain 14.02.2020 and Sharjah 15.02.2020). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account R Whelan‘s good careless riding record, guilty plea and deemed the carelessness to be in the mid-range. Due to both careless riding charges occurring in the same race, Stewards determined that the suspensions should be served concurrently.
