The start of the race was delayed by approximately 2 minutes due to BELLA FEVER (URU) being difficult to load. BELLA FEVER (URU) - (D O'Neill): Difficult to load. Over-raced in the early stages. Trainer Mr. M de Kock was advised that prior to entering the filly to race again, it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. BE PREPARED (GB) - (J Crowley): Slow to begin. I WILL NOT (USA) - (P Cosgrave): Over-raced in the early and middle stages. WELL OF WISDOM (GB) - (W Buick): When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the colt, the rider advised that WELL OF WISDOM (GB) over-raced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. LAST SURPRISE (IRE) - (R Mullen): Near the 300 metres was disappointed for a clear run. Approaching the winning post restrained off the heels of another runner when momentarily tightened for room. LIGHT BLUSH (IRE) - (B Doyle): Commenced awkwardly unbalancing its rider. Approaching the 200 metres was held up and had to shift outwards to obtain a clear run. General: Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Jockey K Stott (YOUONLYLIVEONCE (FR)) for being unable to fulfil his engagement.

SUMMERGHAND (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Inconvenienced shortly after the start and bumped another runner. COMICAS (USA) - (W Buick): Lay out under pressure in the early part of the straight. On return to scale the rider advised that the gelding hung right throughout. YATTWEE (USA) - (C Soumillon): After arriving on course, the left-fore plate was dislodged, resulting in it being replaced and YATTWEE (USA) undergoing a veterinary examination, before being passed suitable to race. On arrival at the barrier underwent a further veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Shifted out on jumping. Steadied and bumped another runner on straightening, when avoiding the heels of another runner. Approaching the 300 metres was held up, having to ease and shift outwards to obtain for a clear run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the left fore-leg. WILDMAN JACK (USA) - (F Jara): Raced wide without cover, whilst over-racing in the early and middle stages. Lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. LYNDON B (IRE) - (J Doyle): Bumped on jumping becoming unbalanced. Over-raced in the middle stages. CHIEFOFCHIEFS (GB) - (R Mullen): Held up for a clear run and dipped approaching the 200 metres. INTUITIVE (IRE) - (P Cosgrave): Bumped on jumping and was inconvenienced. General: Jockey W Buick (COMICAS (USA)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(i) for hitting his mount in front of the saddle whilst holding the whip in the forehand. Stewards took into account that this was W Buick’s first breach of this Rule for the season.

Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether JUKEBOX KING (USA) was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Jockey C Beasley and acting on their own observations of the start, Stewards established that JUKEBOX KING (USA) shifted its head into an adjoining stall on its own accord shortly before the start was affected, resulting in the gelding being slow to begin (6 lengths). LIAM'S LEGEND (USA) - (P Dobbs): Commenced awkwardly. NOCENTSINKENTUCKY (USA) - (E Chaves): Slow to begin. Near the 1000 metres had to be steadied when racing close to the heels of another. COLOUR IMAGE (IRE) - (C Soumillon): Bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the 1000 metres lay inwards. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. LAKE CAUSEWAY (USA) - (A de Vries): Slow to begin then tightened for room between runners. Momentarily steadied near the 1000 metres. Approaching the 200 metres was held up and shifted outwards to obtain a clear run. Trainer Mr. S Seemar advised that the following morning the gelding was shin-sore. On return to scale the rider advised that the colt had made respiratory noises over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the colt’s left hind-leg. Trainer Mr. S Seemar was advised that prior to entering the colt to race again, it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. When questioned regarding the performance of the colt, the rider advised that LASER SHOW (IRE) would be better suited to racing over a further distance than today’s event. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account P Graberg‘s good careless riding record and his guilty plea.

KIMBEAR (USA) - (P Dobbs): When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, the rider explained that KIMBEAR (USA) resented the kick back throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SALTARIN DUBAI (ARG) - (R Mullen): Raced wide without cover throughout. General: Jockey S De Souza FOR THE TOP (ARG)) was reprimanded, under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(a) for using the whip to excess, in that he used it on 14 occasions. Stewards took into account that this was S De Souza’s first breach of this Rule for the season. Jockey A Fresu (MILITARY LAW (GB)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that near the 500 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of FOR THE TOP (ARG)(S De Souza), resulting in that colt having to be checked. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account A Fresu‘s good careless riding record, his guilty plea and deemed the carelessness to be in the low-range.
