The start of this race was delayed three minutes due to AF SOQRAT (AE) being examined by the veterinarian and gear being replaced on DAEIJ ALIN (AE) at the barriers. AF ALQOOS (AE) - (B Pinheiro): Slow to begin. Lay out under pressure from the 400 metres. AF SOQRAT (AE) - (T O'Shea): Fractious in the barrier and reared up. As a result underwent a veterinary examination and passed suitable to race. Trainer Mr E Oertel was advised that prior to entering the colt to race again, it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. On jumping bumped became unbalanced. Hung out from the 1000 metres. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be mildly lame in the right fore-leg. AIZ ALAWDA (AE) - (S Paiva): Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. DAEIJ ALIN (AE) - (A M Al Balushi): The visors had to be replaced on arrival at the barrier. Began awkwardly and then bumped heavily with another runner. On return to scale the rider advised that the colt raced ungenerously throughout. JALAL AL REEF (AE) - (P Cosgrave): Shifted in abruptly on jumping. MIHWAL (AE) - (H Bentley): Slow to begin. NIMR W'RSAN (AE) - (N Garbutt): Bumped on jumping. SHAFAF (AE) - (S Hitchcott): Slow to begin. KESRA (AE) - (B Doyle): Bumped on jumping.

AF AL AASSI (AE) - (R Mullen): Shifted in on jumping and bumped another runner. Near the 1500 metres was bumped heavily on the hind-quarters by another runner, becoming extremely unbalanced. AF MOMTAZ (AE) - (A Fresu): Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Near the 1500 metres was bumped before shifting out and bumping another runner. AF SANAD (AE) - (B Pinheiro): Shortly after the start and again near the 1500 metres, shifted out abruptly before being straightened by its rider. AF YATROQ (AE) - (T O'Shea): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a small cut above the left eye. AL TIRYAQ (AE) - (P Cosgrave): Began awkwardly. SHARAF AL REEF (AE) - (B Doyle): Slow to begin. ALAZOUM (AE) - (H Bentley): Near the 1500 metres shifted out off heels of another runner. ES JALMUD (AE) - (R Ffrench): Bumped on jumping. Near the 1500 metres was bumped from the inside and taken outwards, before bumping heavily with another runner. MAQAM (AE) - (F Veron): On jumping shifted out and bumped another runner. Near the 1500 metres shifted out away from another runner and bumped another runner. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for a number of horses being bumped and hampered near the 1500 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1500 metres AF SANAD (AE)(B Pinheiro) shifted outwards abruptly when making the course proper, resulting in ALAZOUM (AE)(H Bentley) shifting off that gelding’s heels carrying MAQAM (AE)(F Veron) outwards. In doing so MAQAM (AE) bumped with AF MOMTAZ (AE)(A Fresu) which in turn shifted out and bumped ES JALMUD (AE)(R Ffrench), which in turn was taken outwards abruptly and bumping the hind-quarters of AF AL AASSI (AE)(R Mullen), which became unbalanced. Stewards noted the racing manners of AF SANAD (AE) and accepted that B Pinheiro had attempted to straighten during the initial shift, and therefore placed the blame of this incident onto the racing manners of his mount and took no action against any rider.

Near the 1300 metres shifted out abruptly when over-racing onto the heels of another runner. RAAHYEH (GB) - (R Ffrench): Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 1400 metres and again near the 1300 metres shifted ground abruptly when racing greenly. COZMO STAR (IRE) - (D Liska): Over-raced in the early stages. General: Jockey S Paiva (AQUANURA (IRE)) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars being that approaching the 300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MAC FI BARELIERE (FR)(B Pinheiro), resulting in that gelding having to be checked. Jockey S Paiva had his license to ride in races suspended for four race meetings (Meydan 06.02.2020, Jebel Ali 07.02.2020, Abu Dhabi 09.02.2020 and Meydan 13.02.2020). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account S Paiva‘s good careless riding record.
