UNTOLD SECRET (GB) - (J Santiago): Lay in under pressure over the final 200 metres. ARROWAY (USA) - (X Ziani): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. Taken inwards by another runner approaching the 1700 metres. Shifted inwards away from another runner passing the 200 metres. TAFAAKHOR (IRE) - (D O'Neill): Commenced awkwardly. Near the 1700 metres had to be severely checked when tightened for room. Passing the 200 metres was taken inward by another runner and inconvenienced. General: Jockey J Santiago (UNTOLD SECRET (GB)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the particulars of the charge being that approaching the 1700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ARROWAY (USA)(X Ziani), which was taken inwards resulting in TAFAAKHOR (IRE)(D O'Neill) having to severely check. J Santiago had his license to ride in races suspended for three race-meetings (Jebel Ali 27.11.2020, Sharjah 28.11.2020 and Meydan 03.12.2020). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account J Santiago‘s good careless riding record, his guilty plea, the actions of X Ziani prior to the incident and deemed the carelessness to be in the low-range. Stewards inquired into the reason for RIGHT FLANK (USA)(A de Vries) having to be restrained passing the 200 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that passing the 200 metres RIGHT FLANK (USA) had to be restrained when tightened for room by TAFAAKHOR (IRE)(D O'Neill), which shifted in when taken in by ARROWAY (USA)(X Ziani), that shifted inwards and away from UNTOLD SECRET (GB)(J Santiago). Stewards noted that UNTOLD SECRET (GB) was laying inwards under pressure over the final 200 metres and that J Santiago was attempting to straighten his mount when shifting ground. As a result, Stewards advised J Santiago to exercise more care in a similar situation. When questioned regarding his riding over the concluding stages, Jockey R Ffrench (TAILOR’S ROW (USA)) advised that in his opinion from previous rides on the gelding, TAILOR’S ROW (USA) responds better when not hit with the whip. Further he looked to his outside to view where his nearest competitor was compared to himself. Jockey X Ziani (ARROWAY (USA) was warned regarding his tactics that he adopted in the early stages of the race, in that after commencing awkwardly and losing ground he elected to improve quickly between runners until being taken inward by UNTOLD SECRET (GB) approaching the 1700 metres. X Ziani advised that he was instructed to race in a forward position, ideally just behind the leaders, however Stewards were of the view that by improving quickly through the field in the early stages, in an attempt to ride to his instructions, was verging on being reckless as it was unpredictable for other riders, who were looking to cross toward the fence, to safely identify where he was racing. X Ziani was advised that if he were to continue to ride in such a manner, further disciplinary action would be issued against him.
