The start of this race was delayed by approximately 1 minute due to a minor malfunction with the gates. BRIDESMAN (IRE) - (R Mullen): When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, the rider advised that BRIDESMAN (IRE) will appreciate races over a further distance than today’s event. DESERT DESTINATION (IRE) - (J Doyle): On arrival at the barrier underwent a veterinary examination on the request of its rider and was deemed unsuitable to race. Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of the gelding at 5:21pm. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left fore-leg. Trainer Ms. B Deutrom was advised that prior to the gelding entering to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for DESERT DESTINATION (IRE). DIGNITY JOY (USA) - (A Fresu): Began awkwardly and lost ground. DURANDAL (GB) - (T O'Shea): On jumping shifted out and bumped another runner. EL BAAREQ (USA) - (V Leal): Bumped on jumping. Lay out under pressure from the 400 metres. FABRIZIO (GB) - (A de Vries): Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped another runner. KHABAAB (IRE) - (G Buckell): Began awkwardly and was bumped by another runner. LINE OF SUNSHINE (IRE) - (M Barzalona): On return to scale the rider reported that the gelding would be better suited racing on dirt. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right fore-leg. Trainer Mr. S bin Ghadayer was advised that prior to the gelding entering to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for LINE OF SUNSHINE (IRE). MEZZOTINTO (GB) - (P Cosgrave): Bumped on jumping. VEDENO (USA) - (S Al Balushi): Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was bumped by another runner and lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the rider reported that ZERO TO A HUNDRED (USA) raced one-paced today and did not improve when placed under pressure. General: Apprentice L Chimenes (ICE CAVE (IRE)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that passing the 1300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of THUNDER OF NIAGARA (IRE)(G Malune) thereby tightening that gelding in onto ALMOREB (IRE)(D O'Neill), resulting in both geldings having to be checked. Apprentice L Chimenes had his license to ride in races suspended for three (3) race meetings (Al Ain 16 January 2022, Abu Dhabi 17 January 2022 and Meydan 21 January 2022). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Apprentice L Chimenes’s good careless riding record and guilty plea.

BRONTOLOGY (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Shortly after the start bumped another runner. Near the 1400 metres shifted in and bumped another runner. CHAMPIT (USA) - (S Kirrane): Slow to begin, bumped another runner then tightened for room. Shifted inwards in the final bend and bumped another runner. ATTRIBUTION (USA) - (X Ziani): Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start shifted in and tightened another runner. KANOOD (USA) - (A de Vries): Began awkwardly, lost ground, then tightened between other runners and clipped the heels of another runner, resulting in the rider being dislodged. LADY SNAZZ (USA) - (R Mullen): Saddle had to be re-adjusted on arrival at the barrier. On jumping shifted out. ROUGHER (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be eased off the heels of another runner. Was bumped by a tiring runner in the final bend. WELFORD (GB) - (A M Al Balushi): Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. TALO (USA) - (R Ffrench): Shortly after the start bumped another runner. General: Jockey A de Vries (KANOOD (USA)) was examined by the Club’s Medical Doctor and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Stewards inquired into the reason for SANAD LIBYA (USA)(T O'Shea) having to be restrained off the heels of another runner near 1400 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1500 metres BRONTOLOGY (IRE)(M Barzalona) shifted inwards and bumped MULFIT (USA)(G Buckell) resulting in its rider restraining his mount and SANAD LIBYA (USA)(T O'Shea), which was racing behind MULFIT (USA), itself being restrained and losing ground. In the circumstances M Barzalona was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), improper riding, for sustained pressure on another runner and G Buckell was reminded of his obligations when restraining his mount excessively and the effect it has on other runners.

On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 1500 metres ALFAREEQ (IRE)(D O'Neill) commenced to shift in, taking LA BARROSA (IRE)(J Doyle) inwards as that gelding commenced to over-race, resulting in slight contact with QUIP (USA)(R Ffrench). Taking into account the evidence and racing manners of both ALFAREEQ (IRE) and LA BAROSSA (IRE) Stewards reported the interference as a racing incident.
