PASSION AND GLORY (IRE) - (L Dettori): When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the rider explained that PASSION AND GLORY (IRE) raced fresh and led the event, which was not his intention. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. STAR SAFARI (GB) - (J Doyle): Near the 2200 metres had to be eased off the heels of another runner. Near the 1400 metres when awkwardly placed on heels had to be eased on several occasions. MASTER BLOOM (SWE) - (E Chaves): Passing the 400 metres when commencing to weaken had to be eased off the heels of another runner. SUSPICIOUS MIND (DEN) - (P Graberg): Near the 2200 metres was tightened for room and had to be checked. ALIGNAK (GB) - (S Osborne): Slow to begin. MEKONG (GB) - (D O’Neill): After a confirmed telephone call from Trainer Mr. J Osborne requesting to withdraw MEKONG (GB), Stewards acceded to the request and withdrew the gelding at 3:20pm. WIRKO (GER) - (W Buick): On jumping shifted out and bumped another runner. Near the 2200 metres was tightened for room and taken inwards by another runner. Raced wide without cover during the middle stages and was eased near the 1600 metres to obtain cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the rider explained that WIRKO (GER) over-raced in the early and middles stages, refusing to settle. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. IRISH FREEDOM (USA) - (A Fresu): On jumping was bumped by another runner. Raced wide without cover in the early stages. DOLMEN (FR) - (S Kirrane): When leaving the paddock became fractious, dislodging its rider on multiple occasions and bumped the running rail. On arrival at the barrier underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Saddle had to be re-adjusted on arrival at the barrier. Near the 2200 metres had to be eased off the heels of another runner. General: Apprentice S Kirrane was examined by the Clubs Medical Officer after being dislodged by DOLMEN (FR) in the paddock prior to the race and was passed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. Stewards inquired into the reason for SUSPICIOUS MIND (DEN)(P Graberg) having to check near the 2200 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 2200 metres SUSPICIOUS MIND (DEN) was tightened for room after DUBAI FUTURE (GB)(P Cosgrave), which shifted outwards marginally and WIRKO (GER)(W Buick), which was taken inwards by MASTER BLOOM (SWE)(E Chaves), that was shifted inwards. Stewards took into account the evidence tendered by W Buick that WIRKO (GER) would not settle in the early and middle stages when racing ungenerously. Nevertheless, E Chaves was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding, for permitting his mount to shift inwards and tightening the rightful room of runners to his inside.
