KING DAVID (DEN) - (P Dobbs): Began awkwardly, shifted in and brushed another runner. PENSIERO D'AMORE (IRE) - (R Mullen): On jumping shifted out and bumped another runner. Near the 200 metres had to be eased off the heels of another runner. MARIE'S DIAMOND (IRE) - (R Scott): Lost its left fore-plate during the race. VALIANT PRINCE (IRE) - (W Buick): Marginally slow to begin, was bumped between runners and lost ground. DUBAI LOVE (GB) - (L Dettori): Slow to begin, shifted ground, brushed another runner, tightened for room and lost ground. ASCOT BRASS (SWE) - (A de Vries): Began awkwardly and lost ground. LIGHT AND DARK (GB) - (L Steward): Marginally slow to begin and was bumped between runners. BLESS HIM (IRE) - (J Spencer): Slow to begin. Restrained off heels near the 400 metres. GARRULOUS (SAF) - (R Woodworth): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the right fore-leg. MOTAWAAJED (IRE) - (M Barzalona): Slow to begin and brushed another runner shortly after the start. AJWAD (GB) - (B Pinheiro): On jumping brushed another runner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. HIGHLAND DRESS (GB) - (T O'Shea): Began awkwardly and brushed another runner. General: Stewards questioned Jockey R Woodworth (GARRULOUS (SAF)) into the reason for leading the field at a fast tempo in the early and middle stages, before his mount weakened in the straight and finishing at the tail of the field. R Woodworth explained that the instructions from connections were to relax the gelding from a wide barrier. R Woodworth added that after beginning well GARRULOUS (SAF) raced keen and challenged AJWAD (GB) for the lead before he was able to shift to the rail near the 900 metres, where GARRULOUS (SAF) began to settle. R Woodworth further added that he was not aware of how fast his horse was travelling, nor how far he led the remainder of the field. On questioning R Woodworth accepted that had he realized the margin to the field in the middle stages he would have made more of an effort to ease his mount earlier than he did on this occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the right foreleg. Stewards reprimanded R Woodworth under ERA Rule 68 (iii) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing in the race by failing to ease, or attempt to ease, his mount sooner than he had on this occasion, which in the opinion of the Stewards would have allowed GARRULOUS (SAF) an opportunity to run on in the straight. Stewards questioned Jockey B Pinheiro AJWAD (GB) regarding his mount racing in a forward position in the early and middle stages, leading the field by a large margin. B Pinheiro explained that his instructions were to make the pace in the race, which is consistent with the horse’s established racing pattern. B Pinheiro added that AJWAD (GB) did not begin well, which required him to ride the horse along in the early stages and that when challenged for the lead by GARRULOUS (SAF) in the early stages he attempted to maintain his position, however towards the 1000 metres when GARRULOUS (SAF) maintained its position, he eased AJWAD (GB) to sit behind that gelding. B Pinheiro added that after initially losing ground rounding the home turn, entering the straight his mount ran on under pressure and felt fine on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
