Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether ALHZEEM (USA) was denied a fair start as described under ERA Rule 20(ix)(c). After taking evidence from rider R Mullen and ERA Starter Shane Ryan, it was established that as the start was affected ALHZEEM (USA) placed its head in an adjoining stall resulting in the gelding unable to commence with the field and losing 5 lengths. As the horse’s manners were the reason for this incident ALHZEEM (USA) was declared a runner and correct weight declared. AL NAYYIR (GB) - (P Dobbs); Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 400 metres shifted outwards abruptly when easing off the heels of another runner. ALHZEEM (USA) - (R Mullen): Began awkwardly and lost ground (5 lengths). Trainer Mr. N Bachalard was advised that prior to entering the gelding to race again, it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. BENMALEK (IRE) - (S Kirrane): On jumping brushed another runner. Lay out under pressure from the 300 metres and bumped another runner. BRANWELL (IRE) - (A Fresu): Near the 400 metres shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped another runner taking another runner outwards on the track. ENDIFAA (GB) - (A de Vries): Saddle had to be re-adjusted on arrival at the barrier. Bumped on jumping. IBNDUBAI (IRE) - (M Holmberg): Shifted in under pressure from the 300 metres. LAST LIGHT (IRE) - (G Sanchez): Began awkwardly. Near the 350 metres eased off the heels of another runner. LIGHT BEAM (GB) - (R Dawson): Bumped on jumping. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, Trainer Mr. A bin Harmash advised that LIGHT BEAM (GB) has been cantankerous in training and had improved with the addition of blinkers and a hood in training and the race-day addition of blinkers and earplugs. Mr. bin Harmash added that he expected a forward showing from LIGHT BEAM (GB) today. SEEMAR (GB) - (S Al Balushi): Slow to begin. SHERINGHAM (GB) - (D O'Neill): On jumping shifted in and bumped another runner. SULTAN AL NEELAIN (IRE) - (F Jara): On jumping brushed another runner. Near the 400 metres had to be restrained off the heels of another runner. PANOSHOSHIC (USA) - (M Barzalona): On jumping shifted out and bumped another runner. MEZZOTINTO (GB) - (T O’Shea): Raced wide without cover for the majority. Neat the 400 metres bumped by another runner and was taken outwards of the track. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for IBNDUBAI (IRE)(M Holmberg) shifting out near the 350 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 350 metres IBNDUBAI (IRE) shifted out resulting in LAST LIGHT (IRE)(G Sanchez) having to ease of that gelding’s heels. Stewards advised M Holmberg to exercise more care in similar situations in future. Stewards inquired into the reason for MEZZOTINTO (GB)(T O’Shea) being bumped by another runner near the 400 metres. On the evidence and available footage it was established that near the 400 metres BRANWELL (IRE)(A Fresu) shifted out to obtain a clear run, bumping MEZZOTINTO (GB)(T O’Shea) and taking that colt outwards resulting in AL NAYYIR (GB)(P Dobbs) shifting outwards abruptly off heels and SULTAN AL NEELAIN (IRE)(F Jara) further having to be eased off heels. A Fresu was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding.
