The start of the race was delayed by approximately 10 minutes due to the club doctor being delayed to arrive on course at the prescribed time. Correct weight was delayed as connections of MADE IN DUBAI (USA) requested to view the photo finish. After viewing the available photo finish, connections were satisfied and as such correct weight was declared. AL MOFTY (USA) - (R Dawson): On return to scale the rider advised that the gelding hung left throughout. MAPUTO (IRE) - (R Mullen): Difficult to load. Marginally slow to begin. Trainer Mr. B Seemar was advised that prior to the gelding being permitted to enter in a race it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. MEZZOTINTO (GB) - (T O'Shea): Marginally slow to begin. MIDNIGHT DEAL (USA) - (O Chavez): Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. THE MAGICAL MCCOOL (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Marginally slow to begin. General: Trainer Mr. D Watson (THE MAGICAL MCCOOL (USA)) was fined AED 500 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(vii) for the late equipment change to race the gelding with visors.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be bleeding from small cuts in its mouth. SMART SYSTEM (USA) - (G Malune): After a confirmed phone call from Trainer Mr. F Nass that the colt had a bruised foot and requested to withdraw SMART SYSTEM (USA). Stewards acceded to the request and ordered the late withdrawal of the colt at 12:25pm. Trainer Mr. F Nass was advised that prior to entering the gelding to race again, he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for SMART SYSTEM (USA). CHAIRMAN STAR (USA) - (A Fresu): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. HABOOBA (USA) - (R Dawson): Commenced awkwardly. Rider accidently dropped his whip over the concluding stages.

The start of the race was delayed by approximately 2 minutes due to the late withdrawal of BULLACE (GB). EL PATRIOTA (URU) - (J da Silva): Commenced awkwardly. On straightening had to be steadied when racing in restricted room for a short distance. Approaching the 300 metres bumped another runner on several occasions. AEONIAN (IRE) - (A Fresu): Had to be momentarily steadied on straightening when held up for a clear run for a short distance. POSTER PAINT (IRE) - (T O'Shea): Passing the 400 metres, when commencing to weaken, bumped another runner on several occasions and had to be steadied when tightened for room. MANAHIR (FR) - (M Barzalona): Raced keen in the early stages. GARETH (IRE) - (R Dawson): Lost its left hind-plate during the race. BAWAASIL (GB) - (D O'Neill): Commenced awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground. BULLACE (GB) - (R Mullen): En-route to the barrier dislodged its rider and galloped riderless for a considerable distance before being re-captured. On arrival at the barrier, underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed unsuitable to race. Acting on this advice, Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of the gelding at 4:49pm. FIRST WINTER (IRE) - (G Malune): Bumped on jumping. ONE IDEA (GB) - (P Dobbs): Bumped on jumping. Raced wide without cover in the middle stages. BORDER EDGE (IRE) - (P Cosgrave): Bumped on jumping. KAHEALL (GB) - (J Van Overmeire): Bumped on jumping. General: Jockey R Mullen was examined by the Club’s Medical Doctor and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Trainer Mr. B Seemar (TANGLED WORDS (IRE)) was fined AED 500 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(vii) for the late equipment change to race the gelding with blinkers. Jockey P Dobbs (ONE IDEA (GB)) was reprimanded under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i) for careless riding, in that passing the 400 metres he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of POSTER PAINT (IRE)(T O'Shea), which was tightened for room and had to be steadied.

QAREEB (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Raced wide without cover in the middle stages. SARI DUBAI (USA) - (P Dobbs): Commenced awkwardly. KANOOD (USA) - (A de Vries): Slow to begin. Held up for a clear run rounding the home turn until passing the 300 metres. SAQQARA KING (USA) - (O Chavez): Held up for a clear running on straightening and when placed on the heels of another runner had to be checked and shift inwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have superficial cuts over both hocks. TRUE ACCOLADE (GB) - (T O'Shea): Approaching the 400 metres had to be checked when tightened for room and clipped the heels of another runner. General: Jockey O Chavez (SAQQARA KING (USA)) pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), in that approaching the 400 metres he rode his mount to improve onto the heels of TURJOMAAN (USA)(D O'Neill), and as a result had to shift inwards to avoid that gelding’s heels and tightened the running of TRUE ACCOLADE (GB)(T O'Shea), that had be checked and clipped the heel of SAQQARA KING (USA). O Chavez had his license to ride in races suspended for three (3) race meetings (Abu Dhabi 16 February 2023, Meydan 17 February 2023 and Al Ain 18 February 2023). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account O Chavez’s good careless riding record, guilty plea and assessed the carelessness to be in the low-range.

LIGHT BEAM (GB) - (R Dawson): On jumping shifted out and lost ground. YURMAN (ARG) - (T O'Shea): Slow to begin. CYNICAL POINT (USA) - (S Hitchcott): Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. DESERT FROST (IRE) - (S Paiva): Slow to begin. DANEYAN (FR) - (M Rodrigues): Slow to begin. LAST LIGHT (IRE) - (F Jara): When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, the rider advised that LAST LIGHT (IRE) travelled well in the early stages, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities, however an endoscopic examination revealed a degree of mucus which may have affected the gelding’s performance. GAME MASTER (GB) - (F Herholdt): Slow to begin, brushed another runner and lost ground. General: Trainer Mr. S Al Shamsi (DESERT FROST (IRE)) was fined AED 500 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(vii) for the late equipment change to race the gelding without cheekpieces. Jockey F Herholdt (GAME MASTER (GB)) was reprimanded, under the provisions of ERA Rule 69B(c)(vii) for using his whip in consecutive strides. In assessing the penalty, Stewards took into account that this was F Herholdt’s first breach of this Rule for the season.
